Okay fellow aficionados. I finally made the last finishing touches to my new Vinotemp 28. All that’s left is to re-season it and fill it will my cigars.

I added four large singles trays to the top and some lighting to the interior. I also added two “4 ounce” Heartfelt Beads tubes and I am going to add my Cigar Oasis.

Do you think I should add more beads?

Very very nice. :) Get her seasoned up and away you go!!

That looks great! As for adding more beads; yes. I have close to 2 lbs of beads in each of my Vinos and I find that the RH remains close to constant and recovers quickly even after an extended rearranging session.

Dude, is that Spanish cedar? Looks like it. I don't mean this to sound brutal or anything, but you have about 20X mass of cedar in there that you actually can use. There are esthetic considerations - looks cool with the cedar, but you're sacrificing room for inch thick cedar lining, shelves, etc. Stuff likely wasn't cheap, either.

I was thinking the same thing Bruce.

Very nice set-up, however that's some thick azz lumber in there...

Looks nice esthetically.

Like Smurf this is not to rag on your unit as I think it looks great but I do agree about the utilization of your space. You'll soon see why we say this when you fill it up. Also, I can't help but notice the size of those fans.... two of them at that. The purpose of the fan should be to occasionally mix the humidity. You are going to have a wind tunnel going on in there with those and thats not good for exposed cigars. What kind of timer you got those things on?

I am also wondering about your condensation drippage....do you have some way of catching it as it runs down the backside? When I fist started running this unit, it pooled up at the bottom after a couple of weeks. You don't want moldy wood at the bottom. HERE is a suggestion.

You should definitely add more beads. I agree with the others in that it was an inefficient usage of space. That said, you did a really good job with it. It looks great.

I know the Spanish cedar is large (3/4 inch), but that's the only size carried by the exotic lumber store near my home. I would have liked thinner strips. As for the cost, I paid way, way less (even taking into account the thickness) for this wood than I would have paid for on the web for smaller pieces. I thought about the loss of 3/4 inch all the way around the unit, but I figured I could live with it (FOR NOW). In any event, I have two lockers at local cigar lounges near my home that can handle my overflow.

I have the fans on a timer that goes off every three hours for twenty mins, but I am looking for one that will go off 2-3 mins every hour. I cannot seem to find any on the net that offer that many timed events in a 24 hr period. (Does anyone know of a timer that will do that?)

You cannot tell in the picture, but the bottom slab does not extend all the way to the back wall. I left about 2 inches open. Also, the bottom slab slides out completely, so that I can deal with any condensation, and the back wall does not touch the bottom (I left about one inch). I plan on placing this unit on top of a small end table that I bought and run a rubber hose from the drip hole at the bottom of the unit into a 2 liter bottle of soda.

Thanks for the info with respect to the beads. I just ordered some more from Heartfelt.

Here's a picture of some cedar trays I made for another BOTL, for his VinoTemp.

Wow! Those drawers look really good. I bought mine online because I don't have the proper equipment or know-how to undertake such a project.

I made a few trays for my humidor. This guy asked me if I would be interested in making him some, because the ones on line he couldn't put side by side. Now I've a number of other guys lining up to get some. :D

This time has the most on off I have found any where.

Timer

Up to 14 ON / 14 OFF programming per day or 98 ON / 98 OFF programming per week. Random setting option avoids predictable "timer-controlled" look. 3-prong grounded plug and receptacle. Controls lamps (including fluorescent), TV's, stereos and appliances. Easy-to-set hand-held programming with battery backup.

I belive you can set it to go on for as little as five minutes.

With that big of fans in such a small space you will have complete mixture within 1 minute. If you can find a timer with minutes on/off increments you shouldn't have to cycle it every hour...... maybe 4 times a day or so. You will not have that great of a difference from top to bottom in such a small unit over a 4-6 hour period and your cigars will definently not be impacted during such a short duration. I have a cabinet thats 6ft tall with fans much much smaller and have the fans cycle for a few minutes 4 times a day. I have at most a 2% difference from top to bottom before a cycle and usually its 1%.

Didn't see a price on the timer Cigar Al posted but that timer would sure do the trick and allow it to be tuned to only a few minutes on and off. I found one here for under $17.

Thanks for the info everyone. I came up with a solution. Rather than running both fans at the same time and off of one timer, I bought another timer and connected each fan to a timer. I then set each timer to alternate between the other every 1 ½ hrs and run for only five minutes. In this manner, I have less air force pushing around inside the humi and less time elapses between timed events.

Great solution, you've done a great job with this. Keep an eye on your humidity top to bottom, you should be able to move that 1 1/2 hour cycle to only 3 or 4 times a day without any issues.
