I can't remember a worse year for wildfires here in Colorado. Here's a pic I took of the newest fire from about 15miles away, Waldo Canyon. Here's an article from the local paper regarding the fire http://goo.gl/48Gct.
This fire really hits home for me, Waldo Canyon is one of my favorite local hiking trails http://goo.gl/eqQSm, and I am here 1-2 times a week.

Edit: Yes that's a cop car right in front of me!

Yeah, like 3 more fires broke out today. The problem is so many resources are being spent on the High Park fire, that they are fighting these other fires undermanned and against all odds of any semblance of success. Makes you really appreciate what you have.

You should really stop smoking while you hike, Jason.

Gavin, I do a ton of high country fishing and you would actually be surprised at what cigarette smokers do.

I've gotta admit, I've smoked a cigar while hiking. :)

I some cigars a ton while in the mountains. The difference is I make sure that it is put out and the ash doesn't really create a problem.

Hopefully they get this under control soon. I know what it's like being stuck in the middle of wild fires. Luckily we've been ok down here in So Cal this season... so far...

They keep loosing ground on the High Park fire. The containment is going backwards and threatening a very populated area around Red Feather Lakes. With it reaching 105* and a relative humidity today of 5%, we are in for a real fight on these fires. We need the monsoonal flows to begin and they are nowhere in sight. Just got to cross your fingers and hope at this point.

I am closing on a house in Colorado Springs in July.
Trying being on the other side of the world, and wondering id your new construction home is doing ok.....sheesh...this sounds like a good reason to have a smoke..

Spent about 7 years of my life as a CO resident. Devastating stuff, lots of brave people out there putting their lives in the line.

I've got tons of family up there. Hopefully these fires get put out sooner rather than later.

Looks like the fire is on the North West side of town, and my new house is on the South East time side town.
Trying to get all the paperwork in order and we found a typo in the address of my Home Owners Insurance policy and USAA will not make ANY changes to policies in El Paso County right now. Have to give the lady I was on the Phone with credit, she went to levels up the chain to get it resolved for me.

Hopefully no one is in the line of fires and with any luck it can be contained without more damage.

Only 1 life lost thus far. That was because she refused to leave when warned. More than 300 homes have burned to the ground though.

The fire has worked its way into the city. A few neighborhoods have been evacuated. I just heard in the radio that the firefighters are pulling out due to the fast nature of the fire, it's extremely unsafe for them to continue to fight it at this time. It has been reported that a few homes in the Flying W ranch subdivision have been lost.

If you can zoom into the photo I posted You can see the walls of fire along the edges of smoke.

My best friends parents lost their home, they also last their cat. Please pray.

This fire is very dangerous. If it gets into the Springs. There is a ton of structures that WILL BURN TO THE GROUND. Prayers sent.
