College Hockey Fans

We used to live in Mankato, and while not necessarily a fan of Mankato State hockey, season tickets meant I got to watch all the other good teams come play like U of M (Minnesota), UMD, Denver etc.

But now we're in Alexandria, so it's 45+ minutes down to St. Cloud to watch a game. And again while I'm not a fan at all of St. Cloud, I can always go watch them play teams I like!

UVM Catamounts but I live much closer to the UNH Wildcats and follow them as well. Hockey East is where it's at.

Doc.

You might as well have made a post about religion or politics!

We are season ticket holders for the UMD Bulldogs. Hoping they'll be better than last year, but I'm not all that optimistic as long as we have Sandelin as coach.

Best part of those tickets would be when you get to watch the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers play :sign:  except they're not playing in Duluth this year.

I check United States College Hockey Online daily, during the season. WCHA is the best conference, imho.

Hard to argue against the strength of the WCHA!

Have been a Sioux season ticket holder for years. If you folks have never been to the new 'Ralph' it's definitely worth the price of admission! (get to see some pretty good hockey too!!!)

Yeah, but I'm thinking that I don't want to leave Vegas to travel to ND in January or February(or Oct/Nov/Dec/March).

Guck the Fophers  :whistling:   . Those are fun games, but we don't take the boy to the Gopher, Badger, or Sioux games. There aren't a lot of good examples of sportsmanship on the ice or in the stands.

It's not really all that "new" anymore, is it? We've been trying to get over there, but that's a long drive through BFE during the winter. One of these years we'll get over that way. When we do, first beer is on me. :)

Yeah, kind of like taking Joshua to the Wranglers games down here. He learns "new" words every time. :whistling:

Although I am a Gopher Puckhead, I will root for any WCHA team playing any Hockey East or CCHA team.

 actually, ND in Oct and Nov is really great. Best time of the year. Dec and March not so much!

I live in western ND and we have a much different climate then the red river valley in the east. I can't think of to many places where the weather pretty much sucks all year long except for 2 months in the fall but eastern ND is one of them. Hot and humid in the summer and colder then a witches tit in the winter.

Good hockey though!!!

First day of practice for the Gophers is today.

The 'Dogs started practice today. The first (exhibition) game is tomorrow night.

Connolly is getting a lot of good press. He was awesome in HS, I hope he carries his success over to college. The other coaches in conference really seem to be high on him.

From Coach Lucia as quoted in the Strib:

“We’ll try to play a little more pressure hockey. We want to get up on our toes, be skating more. Last year we tried to protect our defensemen and play a little more conservative style than we played in the past. I think we want to get back to playing what Gopher hockey has been historically. We are in a better position to do that this year.

Looking forward to SCSU next weekend.

UND has a freshman defenseman this year who has to have the all time greatest hockey name.

Ben Blood!!!!

You can say that again - my wife's from Winnipeg. We Canadians call it Winter-peg for a reason.

Worst winter story, though, is from Montreal. I was walking to work in a cold snap (I'm Canadian, OK), and I had a pair of boots with PVC soles, Blundstones from Australia, on. It was so cold that the PVC sole cracked.

As for US college hockey, I have to support the Fighting Irish. Went to a lot of games last year. :)

We watch the Gophers on Directv here in Vegas. I almost have my 6 year old convinced to go to the U of M. Planning a family trip to MPLS for Thanksgiving and will hopefully be able to catch the Michigan game at Mariucci. Wife and Son have only seen the LV Wranglers live, so I'm pretty excited for them.

I have a similar story. Mid 90's it wa so cold out I took a warm glass of tap water and threw it up in the air and it instantly crytalized! The weather guy on TV was doing it and I thought it was BS so I tried it. He was right!

If you're into making a somewhat unsanitary stunt, saliva will make a cracking noise as it freezes :). Yeah, it's cold. Have you ever seen ice fog coming off the river? Very cool looking; I'd swear that the river was boiling, except that it's ice suspended in air, not vapor.

To early for hockey....To much football to play. Plus the weather hasn't changed enough to get me thinking of hockey.

Although M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A, MINNESOTA, MINNESOTA.....GO GOPHERS! :whistling:
