Cold temps in basement - how cold is too cold?

Howdy gents,
well we are going through a major cold snap in Buffalo, NY and my puros are in the Cheaphumidors cabinet/humidor in the basement. My cabinet is the following model:

http://www.cheaphumidors.com/Merchant2/mer...RNITUREHUMIDORS

The temps are reading at around 49 degrees but with RH% at 68%.

Should I be concerned with the temps? Are they too low? I'm sure I can bring them upstairs to warm up until the spring, but is that something I should be compelled to do?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Darren :(

It is not a problem...
As long as the RH is good, they will be fine.
It just slows down the ageing process a little.

Agree with above, but you might want to let them get to room temperature before lighting one up. Don't know if it's fact, but have read a very cold cigar's wrapper is prone to crack when lit.

And, by all means, keep an eye on the rh.

I've read a few times that seriously collectors store their cigars anywhere from 55-60 degrees F.

I live out here in LA where it's terminally hot. So my problem is just the opposite of yours. I'm wondering if too hot a temperature is bad for cigars (considering the RH staying within an acceptable 63-70% range)?

hope Buffalo thaws out for you soon!

:)

Not to worry. During the winter my humis are anywhere from 50-60f. It's a bit more effort to keep your rh up but that's about it.

Hey Seadub -

Yes! :0 Too hot, such as anything around 80 and above isn't bad for the cigars, but it's really good for the beatles who will start hatching at those temps and eat your cigars.

You'll want to find a nice relatively cool place in your house, either a basement, or a closet out of the sun that stays cool.
