This afternoon, my wife and I finished putting the outdoor shed together to clear some space for my man cave in the garage. After getting the kids to bed, I rummaged around in the vino for a nice stick to celebrate. I pulled out a near full box of FEB '10 CoRos that were great a few months back, but had fallen flat shortly after. The aroma was captivating, and I knew they were ready for another go.
The wrapper is a few shades lighter than other CoRos I have seen and I am quite fond of it. It reminds me of the classic Cohiba wrappers you see in old photos and artwork. The aroma at cold is a sweet tobacco, with that nice barnyard scent I love on a Cohiba. I punched the cap with my Xikar 9mm, and was greeted by a perfect draw. The foot toasted easily, and after a few short puffs and we were off. I paired this smoke with a glass of Cragganmore 12 year, a flavorful single malt which goes perfectly with the cigar.
The aroma is spot on Cohiba with a grassy sweetness and undertones of toffee. There is plenty of smoke, and I am quickly reminded why I fell in love with this particular box. I had my first Cohiba Robusto from this box, and the first few sticks were loaded with caramel and toffee. The scotch compliments it very well. I am getting hints of rich, sweet tobacco and lemongrass when exhaling through the nose.
Really getting into the first third, and the caramel/toffee is really coming through. Medium body. The aroma is intense, and the smoke has a sweet, creamy flavor on the draw. Absolutely stunning. The ash forming is a very light gray, almost white (hard to pick up the color w/ my iPhone camera).
Entering the second third, the cigar moves to a medium-full, and the flavor is much more powerful. The subtleties of the toffee and caramel are replaced with a rich, sweet grassiness that reminds me of being outdoors in a Summer's day. The burn is spot on, and the ash is absolutely beautiful. I wish I had an expensive camera to capture this, I'd frame it in my new man cave This is turning out to be a spectacular cigar.
Into the final third, the strength moves to full and the caramel and toffee return in spades. The aroma is something special, like a vanilla bean. This is my favorite part of the cigar. The smoke is very creamy, and feels like you could chew it. This is what a CoRo SHOULD be like!
It was a pleasure to nub this cigar. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside that there are a boxfull of his brothers and sisters in the vino
