Which RH 65% or 70% would be better for a humidor that is 200ct. Keep in mind I'm not aging any cigars at all. I will be storing mostly singles. I need to know in a hurry so I can have them before my humidor arrives. Thanks guys!!! You've been very helpful to me

Most people here would tell ya 65%... thats what I went with myself....

I use 65% in my humidor , and 70s in my coolidor for my long term storage, seems to be working allright

I also ran across something on a cigar sight and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on it

Storing Cigars
Most Cigars smoked in the United States must be humidified and stored at a mild temperature. There seems to be a common approach to these two factors. Cigars should be stored at 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 70 percent humidity. Temperature and Humidity can be looked upon as inverses, that is if your Temperature is 72 F your humidity should be 68%. Try and keep these figures within 3 or 4 points on either side. Keep your cigars in a place that does not get any sun, the heat from a couple of hours of sun can do some strange things to your smokes. The most important factor is to keep things consistent.

Randy, this is a sliding scale that has been around a while:
(**NOTE, THIS IS BOGUS, DON'T TRY THIS**)

Temp RH
80 49
79 51
78 53
77 55
76 57
75 59
74 61
73 63
72 65
71 68
70 70
69 72
68 75
67 78
66 80
65 83
64 86
63 89
62 92
61 96
60 IMPOSSIBLE :0

NOTE: At 60°, it is impossible to attain an equivalent to 70% RH @ 70° - the air can't hold that much moisture!

As you can probably figure out, if it is 61 degrees in your house and you try to get your RH to 96% you will have dripping, ruined unsmokable cigars. :( I do not know what started this chart, but the place I found it, credits (? I would call it blame not credit) J.C. Pendergast, Inc. and John Crea spacifically. Now since John designes and builds Himidors for large cigar storage, up to and including Warehouse Sized Humis, I feel certain he knows better than this. ???

Just keep the temp at around 70 and your RH between 65 and 70 and all is good :D

Just saw this thread and saw above post, I know Jim (Jim Pendergast) and have know him since he was building humidors in Racine WI, matter of fact I have one of the big commercial units (Model CA4880SC/N...24d x 48w x 80h) in my living room he no longer builds humidors, he basically is a provider of onsite precision measurement services using state of the art metrology equipment and software. I know Jim would never go by a chart like above his favorite is a digital hygrometer, usually with a capacitive chip set. Also as stated above DO NOT TRY THE SCALE! Might as well store them in a tub full of water.

Of course this chart is "relative" humidity. Meaning that your hygrometer will automatically adjust the displayed humidity as associated with the temperature...
