I recently purchased a Cigar Oasis XL for my Havana Foot Locker. All the advertizments said that it would last up to a year with no maitanence, yet it has only been a month and it already needed a new cartridge. With it being cold outside I don't open my humi much and it was advertised to humidify a lot larger area. Any advice would be helpful

Is the humidor new or in need of conditioning/seasoning?
Is it full or empty?

I'm looking for a reason that the humidity would be sucked up into the humi or cigars.
Also, is the seal on the humi tight?

I'd ask the same questions. Was your box holding a decent humidity before you put the Oasis in? If not, then you either have a bad seal or a dry box. Those cartridges can be refilled up to 4 times with distilled water before they need to be replaced. And for what it's worth, I've NEVER gotten more than 4-6 months on a full cartridge.

I have an Oasis as well. I no longer use it after switching to Vipers beads.

Viper's Beads

You can refill the cartridge a few times before needing another. I have a CO in my 200 count desktop. I'm not much of a fan anymore. It's markedly off compared to my salt tested hygro and it just doesn't seem to perform well. I added a Puck 100 and between the two I feel better.

I view my CO as a means to circulate air...nothing more.

I have a Cigar Oasis XL on the bottom shelf and Vipers 65% beads on the top shelf. I keep the setting of the CO at 65% so if I am not watching the humidity the Cigar Oasis acts as a back up. During the summer here the challenge is to keep the humidity down, the beads are really excellent at that. During the winter it is the opposite and the Oasis humidifies as well as circulates the air. This seems to work well for me. When I bought the Cigar Oasis I figured it costs more so it must be better, not always the case.

In my cool-r-dor I use an oust fan and beads. This is probably the best most cost effective humidification system I have used.

Hope it works out for you.

The Humi is about 6 months old. I had 4 of the jars with yhe crystals in them and they seemed to be ok but I was looking for a more self maintaied system. I guess there really is none. As for the quaniyu I have about 400 in the humi. Will they require more Humidification or less. I would assume less since they should hold smoe moisture. And I belive the humi seals ok. It seems like it. Mabey I'll try adding some beads' Thanks for all the advice

What are you using to gauge the huidity. If the oasis is 'off' it may be expending moisture.

Also, did you 'season' the humi - or just put crystals in the case?

I have a digital hygrometer in the humi. And by "season" I used a damp rag and wipped the cedar and let it sit empty with the crystals in it for about 3 weeks untill it stabilized.

I took my resevoir apart, took out the foam and replaced with the beads!

Works like a champ in conjunction with the rest of the beads!

I know of someone else who did that, and they were very happy with it also.

I've heard of some other people doing this and being quite happy with the result.

What type of barrier did you use to keep the beads from blasting out?

I have just the Cigar Oasis XL and replaced the foam in mine with expanding polymer crystals. (They look like the stuff in the humi jars that expand when wet)

I have been very happy with this setup other than the fact that I noticed some small specks of mold on the crystals the other day. I took care of it, but thought it might be a good idea to switch to beads if I can get it to work.

I love the CO. The hygro is way off, but once I got it dialed in with my digital (and tested) hygros, the humidity stays exactly where it is supposed to and the cartridge with the crystals in it has lasted for months without recharging.

No barrier at all... but my Oasis is the original, less powerful one. I just did not fill up the reservoir totally full.
I've never been able to dial it in - it's all over the place for RH... so I have it plugged in with my custom fan setup the comes on with a timer 6 times a day for 15 minutes each time.

Thanks for the info.

I had an older one but when a connector broke they replaced the whole unit with the new Oasis XL. Good people over at Bargain Humidors!
