Howdy gang,
My first post on this wonderful site! :sign: kudos to you all. What a wonderfully helpful site this has been to me!

OK, I have purchased a Trinidad display humidor (holds around 300 to 400 cigars) that was distributed by Altadis USA numerous years ago. (picture forthcoming).
On the back of the model there is a trap door and compartment that fits the Cigar Oasis perfectly.

I too was having a problem with the unit not automatically shutting off when a certain RH was reached. What I did was:

#1 wait until my humidor got to 70%.
#2 Once there I turned the Cigar Oasis rheostat control on the power box lower until it went off.
#3 With smaller turns, I moved the rheostat control until I heard the unit go on, and repeated step #2; in so doing I tried to find that delicate point whereby the unit would turn on as soon as the humidor went below the 70% RH mark.

After a while I stood by waiting to hear if the Oasis unit would power on. Only a couple of times did I hear it turn on, and then almost immediately it turned off. I've since relocated the Trini humidor/display case to the basement where I've found the RH/Temp to stay locked at 70% RH/70 degrees.

Now, does anyone else have any useful tips that might help any of us who are fumbling our way through using Cigar Oasis units. (for the record, I use the original Cigar Oasis, not the Jr, not the largers Cigar Oasis II unit, etc....).

Hope this stimulates some lively discussions!

First off, before all else, jump to the lobby and introduce yourself!! everyone here likes to say hi (Hi! )

I have a cigar oasis also, and I've found that it does the same thing. I have tried and tried to pinpoint the dial setting for the correct RH, but have since given up - I got close but it still bounced around. I now use the beads for RH control in my coolidor and the cigar oasis is used when I open the door to get the RH up faster (since the coolidor door lets ALOT of humidity out, and I cranked the oasis to the max setting for faster RH increases!) and I also plug it in occasionally to act as a circulation fan.

Maybe someone else can give tips, but I've found the beads to be MUCH more reliable...

Same problem as both of you. I have one in my desktop and it never shuts off - even at the lowest setting and the humidity is up to 77%. The seal on the humi is great so I just unplug the thing and when the Rh drops too low I plug it in for 24 hours. I now use beads in my larger humidors - you may want to look into those as Swissy suggested - the Oasis are too much trouble IMO.

I love the oasis. I use one in a small 150 ct. desktop humi. I just let the rh drop to around 64 and then I adjusted the knob until it came on. I have had wonderful luck with it and holds the rh rock solid. When i put it in at first the rh shotr up to 77 and required adjusting. If your oasis is working correctly you will love it. If it will not go off make sure you havedistilled water in the cannister.

Two new members joined up today, to post about the merits of the Cigar Oasis ?

Hmmmm, a new marketing campaign must have started.

nah...I'm just a stalker. I read all the time. I just never post. You guys have much more knowledege about the subject. But, I do own an oasis and love it.

Fair enough. Now that you've made the leap from stalker to post newbie, head to the lobby and introduce yourself Pitts.

Uh oh..... not even here a day and I'm starting trouble!!! hahahaha

However, to their merit they ARE so good. I just purchased a new Cigar Oasis and put it in the Trini humidor. Ran and ran and ran until I tweaked the dial. Ain't running no more. Just hope it DOES go on when the RH% dips below the current 68 level.

:D Darren

I use the Cigar Oasis products in all my cabinet style humidors and in one desktop. I find that they work fantastic. A couple of them required a little tweaking to get the RH where I wanted it but a couple of them worked fine on the factory setting. I think that they are great!

Hey Atuck,
I have 2 of them as well. Both are working very well. My question to you is, what size Cigar Oasis are you using for the desktop? The Cigar Oasis Jr??

I use the standard Cigar Oasis but I used a Rotozip to cut out an area in the top tray so it would fit good. Like so:

great minds think alike. That'swhat I had to do as well.

I use Oasis jr. in a Savoy x-large humi. 200+ count
I at first had a few cartrages dry up within 5 months, after that it has been great. I can go 6 months per refill now on dist. water.
I tried to use 50/50 fluid in the cartrage once, thinking it would prolong it....and it just molded the foam inside.........
Has anyone heard of a little cedar box that the jr. fits into go inside your humi?

I use a big jar of humi-gel and an Oust! fan (without the stoopid fragrance). It works great on the humidor that I use for the "Good Cigars".

I have had the larger Oasis II unit for 2 years and love it! Dealing with cartridges seems would be a pain but my unit just fills up with out it. I have a large humidor with over 14 boxes and a few hundred loose sticks and it keeps them nice and cozy.

Yes I have one for my regular Cigar Oasis I... great thing to have just in case there's a leak or something :0

I was thinking about getting a Cigar Oasis JR for my mainly ISOM humidor.

Darren

I just switched to 65% Beads. My cigars smoke better and there is no motor inside th humi. Before the beads I was using the gel.

Beads all the way.

THanks for the idea... I'm gearing up to get some beads very shortly. However, do tell me something.... you mention no motor inside the humi. Do you feel this effects the taste or aging process of the cigars that way?

Just wondering,
Darren ???

No I do not think the motor will do any harm. I just do not like electrical stuff in my humidor. To be honest I never had an Oasis so I should not say a whole lot here. I know I like the beads. They work great.

I just ordered a new cartridge refill for an Oasis Jr. Instead of doing a cut out on my humidor (ala Atuck) I figured I'd use the Jr so that the intake fan will not be obstructed by Spanish cedar.

Now, another question to those of you who have Cigar Oasis with the florist foam... how do you know when its time to refill (if you are a DIY-er) or when to buy a new cartridge?
