Cigar Oasis II XL

I like the XL Plus little better than having to get the refills. The XL Plus has a resivor that you just refill with distilled water every so often. The XL has the refill cartridges that you have to buy. They say that you can refill the cartridges but, I hear it's a pain.
Anyways, I have one of those Verona cabinet humidors and mine works pretty nice in it. When I bought mine from Mike at Tampa Humidor he said some people buy two in lower humidty climates (that have large cabinet humidors). Sometimes during the winter I have to fill it every three weeks or so. Don't go by the hygrometer on the Oasis though.....Rely on a seperate one. Mines off by five percent. Tampa has very good prices on these.

Even with something that big, I'd go with beads. I've never used Cigar Oasis products so I can't comment intelligently on them. :(

I used an oasis in a large desktop until my Cabinet was built. It was one of the original Oasis and worked fine for me. I took the cartridge apart and filled it about 1/8 full of crystal gel (if anyone else does this do not, I repeat, do not fill the cartridge with more than approx 1/8 of the crystal gel) which worked quite well. Since crystal gel does not regulate it worked great in conjuction with the oasis.

I use nothing but KLH now in the cabinet along with 2 small computer fans on a timer to move the air around a few times a day. Best $10 I ever spent.

I use the XL plus along with beads in a Montaque end table cabinet. The RH is steady. I am happy with it. I have only had it for 6-7 weeks.

Its work great but the hygrometer it off about five percent. The only thing with this humidor is air circulation. It is hard to get humidified air up to the top with out some fans. The only real way air will get there is up the front of the humidor. There is about a half inch of free space all the way up and down. The back will be blocked by shelves. The II just fits inside. It is a HUGE piece of equipment. I was shocked when I got it in the mail. It holds almost 60 ounces of water. It is a slick setup with a two constant fans running to circulate the air and a third one to add moisture to the air. It cycles all the time. The read out shows tenths and and as soon as it gets one tenth below your setting it kicks on.

So far so good. I also have a cigar oasis XL, the refillabe one, its in the top of the humi. The thing is with this humi it is so tall and narrow the humidity sinks pretty quickly to the bottom. Once you open the door, whoosh all the humidity is gone and it takes a awhile to recover.

I plan to modifiy the humi with some computer fans and it will be perfect. It also comes with five or so cedar trays which take up space. They are sitting onthe floor.. I had it almost 3/4 full the day I transferred everything to it and wish I had bought a bigger humi.

I will try to post some pics soon of the II.

Isn't that the way it always is. No matter what humidor we get, it always ends up too small. Been there and done that more than I would like to say.

I have one but only for about three months. So far it works good. It comes with additonal fan plugings and I would recommend these or the extra computer fans to get the air circulating. It really is a big piece of equiptment and does take up about 2-4 cigar boxes of space in the humidor. Good luck.

I have an XL Plus in an eight cubic foot cabinet. I'm in the cabinet daily, and denver has no ambient humidity, so I have to fill weekly. Opperationaly, I have only had one glitch, where the hydrostat went wacky and ran itself up to the mid eighties all by itself. I powered off and let it reboot and it has worked fine since.

Like shooter said, getting humidified air to the top of the cabinet was the challenge. I had to play around for a couple of weeks, until I found the "right" placement. I'm very happy with the unit I have, and look forward to hearing more about the II, since I am planning on building a couple of large wall units in a basement renovation.

I have three cabinet humidors and started with an Oasis II in one of them. It's worked well. Then the owner of my B&M showed me pix of the XL II because he knew I needed better humidification solutions for my other two cabinets -- I'd asked him about IIs and he came back with the II XLs. Well, I fell in love. Digital RH in tenth-of-a-percent increments? Simple up/down RH target setting? Oasis' good name? I bought three. None work. Yet.

The remotes (the up/down button & digital readout) failed on all three within two weeks. We replaced one of the remotes, and it, too, failed in a matter of days. We called Oasis several times and finally learned that they'd been having trouble with the remotes failing. I was (un)lucky enough to get four bad remotes.

The folks at Oasis said that they've located the problem and will have replacement remotes to me "in the middle of March." I'm looking forward to their arrival.

If you have the II XL, you may have noticed that there are three fans: the two tiny box fans that circulate air, and a squirrel-cage fan in the middle of the "upper deck." When the remote module fails, the squirrel-cage fan doesn't turn on anymore. It's the squirrel-cage fan that pulls in air and blows it over the foam and out to re-join the circulating air.

If your RH falls 5% below your set point for more than two hours the display starts flashing "H2O" to let you know that your water level is low. If you add water and it's still unable to push the RH up to your set point, you may have a failed remote. The simplest way to tell is to keep the unit running and take off the top. (Slide off the long thin plastic "clip" thats on each of the long sides holding the top and botton together -- it's like those plastic spine clips we used in high school to hold reports together.) If the squirrel-cage fan is running, the plastic flap visible on the underside will have air blowing through it. If the flap is closed, you've got a bad remote. If you have a bad one, give 'em a call and get on the list for a replacement. (If air's blowing through it, and your humidor can't maintain your set point, you've got a major leak in your humidor.)

When the units were running I was quite pleased. When the corrected remotes arrive I'll be quite pleased again.

Presuming that they've corrected the problem with the remotes I would recommend these to anyone. Whether it's beads or an Oasis II XL, you still have to pay attention to your humidification. In the Oasis II XL's favor, the flashing "H2O" display wins for me. A quick glance and I know how my humidors are doing. And when I install the reverse osmosis (water filter) I can put float valves in the bottoms of the OASIS II XLs and they'll keep themselves filled when I'm out of town. I can't do that with beads....

Yup mine tanked yesterday and they are sending me a replacement by the end of the week. It does a great job and is super sensitive in humidity changes, just a bummer that the remote failed.

I like to Habitat monitor that comes in Bob's humi's. You can get it from Bob or google 'habitat monitor' for their direct site. Bob's prices seem to be in line with the manufacturer.

Anyone ever use a combination of Cigar Oasis and beads? Kinda like wearing a belt with suspenders :)

just an update.

For one make sure you have gotten the new remote display becasue the original ones will break.

I have been running mine with the air flow exit towards the front of the humi, because I thought I knew more than the people that designed it. I thought since it exhausts air upward I would do this so the humidified air would blow towards the top of the humi. My humididty kept cycling up and down all the time. So I decided to follow the instructions and place the air exit at the back and my humidity hasn't moved in 4 days. So for those of us with the "cigar tower" that have the exit at the front might give thought to moving to the rear.

This is actually becoming the norm rather than the exception. Many have found that it is provides great stability if you combine the both.

I'm Mike from CigarExtras.com , just thought I'd add my own experience with the Cigar Oasis XL II as I sell it on our website but also use it personally. The NEW model of the II's called the XL II has a remote which should be placed toward the top of the cabinet. The remote has a digital readout and can be increased or decreased one percent per click, this is a major improvement over the old analog dial system. As commented earlier the remotes did have a technology flaw when the XL II's were first introduced, but that has now been corrected. The system holds ample water allowing for fills as infrequently as monthly on a tightly sealed cabinet to as often as weekly on a less sealed or frequently opened humidor. When refilling I recommend leaving the base in place where you normally keep it to avoid splashing water around if you tried to move it. I have had my Cigar Oasis II in use for four months and am truly pleased with the performance, we have sold 100's of these for personal and commercial use and they perform well with few if any complications.

BTW I also use one Cigar Oasis XL and a XL Plus in two desktop humis and they have been running for a year + and are awesome. Since we sell the Oasis products, you might think my words are biased, but as a user of the products I assure you my opinions are based on using the humidifiers personally. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly.
