OK...long story short, I just bought two Humigauge digital temp./hygrometers, one for each shelf of my humi.

Last night I set my CO to 74 (which is positioned on the bottom shelf) after noticing an RH of only 54 on the top shelf hygro. This morning the lower hygro registered RH of 71% and the upper hygro 58%. I have yet to salt test the hygros.

I am considering a few options to increase my top shelf RH:

1) Reworking the foam filter that came with the humi (and has never been used) into a Heartfelt humi system and attaching it to the top of my humi. I'll use the beads in conjunction with my CO.

2) Adding an OUST fan to use in conjunction with the CO.

3) Adding a one ounce perforated Heartfelt bead tube. According to the Heartfelt formula, this is the amount of beads that I would need for the top shelf.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,
You didn't indicate what type/size humidor you have which may make a difference in suggestions.

I use the RH Beads on every shelf throughout to help even out RH levels.

It sounds like you're on the right track though.

Mark-

You are correct.

I have a Savoy Bubinga XL humi. 12" H x 16" W x 8" D

EDIT: I'm not wed to Heartfelt beads...

I have a 20x20x20 cabinet, and a CO XLplus. It took a month plus for the humidor to season such that I got similar readings throughout. In the figuring it out period, I experimented with moving the CO arround until I found a location where it could easilly push moisture from bottom to top.

Other factors will include things like how often the door is opened, and how full the Humi is. The longer you stay arround here, the less likely you'll have to worry about an empty humi.

Thanks for the response. I want to salt test my hygros to check their accuracy.

I agree with you regarding your last sentence!

That is the first thing you need to do before making any changes. Do not try to "fix" anything until you know you have a reliable hygrometer reading.

After you've done the above is when you start to trouble shoot. I personally would not run an Oasis and beads in the same humi. Getting the oasis dialed in is not an exact science and having beads asorbing and expending will make things even the more complicated.

The humidity swing from top to bottom in a humidor the size you have should not be anywhere near that high. There are many things that could be the cause and hopefully you will eliminate one possible cause when you do a salt test. You can switch the hygrometers and see what they read after 24 hours. (put the bottom on top and the top on bottom)

How good is your seal? How often are you opening the unit? How many cigars do you have in it? How long has the Oasis been in the unit?
