Hi folks,(long Story)
Well i think it's time i come to the pro's. I had bought a verona cabinet humidor about 5 years ago(nice cabinet). My first humidification system was not that great, 2 oasis bricks placed in tuppadore. Also added to that about a year later was an oasis jr. I didn't like it so i stepped up to an oasis 2. So far so good well not so good cause the digital hygrometers were off about %10 low read, so 70 was really 80. Threw those one's out and bought myself a little havana. Did the salt test and read %76. I now have the oasis 2 on the bottom of the cabinet and i use my oasis jr without catrigde as a fan ontop. 2 Questions:

I'm trying to learn and to see if the oasis 2 is big enough for my humi. How do i do that?

I was also thinking of adding some beads so that the oasis doesn't work too hard.

The reason i am concerned is, there's a slight drop of humidity as i go higher up in the humi. Also the cigars seemed to be a little hard to feel not the ones in the box that are closed just the ones that are loose in the open.

I found this in the instructions for an Oasis II

• Replace the filler plug. OPTIONAL AUXILIARY FANS Large display cases may require an additional auxiliary fan to eliminate humidity gradients (dry spots) in the case and provide optimum performance. To install fan proceed as follows:

• Attach the fan with double-backed tape or “Velcro” fasteners at locations which aid the flow of air from the unit and at the same time promote a circular motion of air through the display case to provide good mixing.

• Plug the fan into the jack located near the power jack (above the filler plug). If your unit was purchased initially without a fan, there may be no fan jack. In that case an adapter will be provided with any fan(s) purchased later.

Hello Mr Smoker,
I purchased a Cheaphumidors cabinet a little while ago and thought that a Cigar Oasis Plus would be the best thing to humidify the whole cabinet. I was wrong.

I did the same thing you did and had the CO plus at the bottom. Great. 68% RH but as I read the other digital hygrometers (Oregon Scientific, 3 of them, at various levels of the cabinet), the readouts were 68% (bottom) 66% (middle), and 64% top.

What I did from there was to take another Cigar Oasis 2 and put it on the top shelf, keeping the Cigar Oasis plus at the bottom. As of now, without putting any extra weather stripping on I get a solid 68% RH reading top to bottom (including my pull out drawer).

Tell me, do you have a link to the cabinet/humidor that you are having these problems with? If so, I'd love to see it and could suggest better having done so.

My humidor/cabinet is right here: http://www.cheaphumidors.com/Merchant2/mer...RNITUREHUMIDORS

Hi again,
Well what i really would like to know is the calculation for cubic feet of air inside mu humi. Here is a link, i hope i put this link correct first time posting a link>>>>>>>>> http://www.casinovendors.com/VendorLinkFra...tyimporters.com

It will be in the catagory "commercial display humidors" and my humi is "the verona". The only thing that is different from the one on the web compared to mine is the analog hygrometer. Mine is on the door versus it being up top.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure on the calculation end of things. From the looks of it, though, it would seem that you need perhaps another fan in there to circulate the humidified air a bit more evenly. You said you had the Cigar Oasis 2? I think you need the biggest one there is, which is the Cigar Oasis XL Plus. It supposedly takes care of 3000 cigars or 10 cubic feet. Check out the eBay auctions for this here:

Hope this helps,

Hi,
Well my cigar oasis 2 is the biggest oasis you can buy. The oasis your talking about is just a newer with led display(version of the first). I do have a fan running which is the very first oasis i bought but there is no water cartridge, the fan is tilted on the side.

Sorry to slant of a bit from the op's topic, but,is the Oasis supposed to be filled with only distilled water or is propylene glycol needed as well?
Also I see some cabinets with oasis and a bag of heartfelt beads.
I would think if you cannot fill with propylene glycol, the heartfelt beads or similar is needed too.
At least imo,I would feel it is needed.I just do not feel comfortable useing only distilled water in any of my tupadors, humidors,or any dors'.The propylene glycol just balances things out and makes for a more stable enviroment.

What do ya think?

Also,is it possible to have the larger Oasis(up to 3,000 cigars) for future cabinet upgrades for, say,an endtable humidor?I cannot afford the big armoir yet or a tall slim 6ft cabinet but I'd like to not have to buy another oasis or the silver humidifying device moist-n-fresh.I have also heard the moist-n-fresh is more reliable and stable then any of the oasis, dunno if this is true or not but seems to be the humidifying device of choice for quite a bit of shops around here.

Thanks for letting me stray a bit off topic and asking some questions,
any help would be greatly appreciated.I have no problem starting a new topic if need be,just let me know.:D

Forgot to mention in relation to your topic;

You could try removeing everything, sanding lightly and evenly all the cedar inside with medium grit multipurpose sand paper.Remove dust, and re-season the thing slowly over 2 week period.I like to re-season my humidors of all sizes every year or two at the most.Sanding also helps with that fresh cedar smell and breatheing of the cedar.A hot bowl of distilled water and useing the oasis to slowly season over two weeks maximum might be ideal for a cabinet of your size. Then let the oasis run at desired humidity for a bit.

Also keep in mind where you keep your cabinet and the tempature of that room.Is the temp fluctuateing quite a bit? Most people have a habit in winter to save money by shutting off or lowering the heat while away or at work. The cooler the enviroment the harder the oasis will need to work and the harder the cabinet in general will need to work to hold proper humidty.

If after all that the thing is still not accurate, try sealing better with weather stripping for windows and doors. Its rectangle, one side sticky, and 1/8th to 3/4 thick with no grooves on top.Its not hard and will condense when the door is shut sealing in all air/moisture.
Then re-test the oasis.

May want to call the manufacturer and ask for a replacement or a proper calibration method you can do home.

Hope this helps.:D

To tell you the truth I’m a bit confused by some answers here. I’m currently building a large cabnitdore so I’ll fill you with the knowledge I’ve obtained up to date. First of all 50(h) 20(w) 15(d) all in inches = 4.16’ x 1.66’ x 1.25’ = 8.63 square feet approx. The cigar oasis II is supposed to cover and maintain display cases, yours is a fair amount smaller then a display case. Circulation is key. What you don’t see because there hidden is the display cases have small fans to circulate the air flow and maintain humidity. If you have large solid shelve which it looks like it dose it may restrict airflow. There’s obviously a lot in cedar in it all ready try a wire rack self. Third never put propylene glycol in an oasis system or beads, it will clog the whole thing up. Big no no. I also know the Oasis II comes with new inserts you can purchase. All in all your oasis II is more then large enough to stand alone. Your humidor sounds like it has a solid seal. So I would say its either a circulation issue as I stated before, or your oasis inserts are plugged up.

OK,
I think i'm gonna try what "cigar penguin" said re-season my humi. But i'm a little confused with the "hot bowl of distilled water"?

Thank you for this as I never found info on the subject.

I also noticed theres no slots in the shelveing.
Useing a router,it might be worth it to make diagnol slots in the shelves.
Adding some pc fans as well for better flow is a good idea.

Hi,
The idea of cutting out my shelves would be a no no for me. I want to keep as much cedar and style as possible inside my humi. What i will do instead is order some beads and put them on the top shelf to keep my humi well balanced. I think it will help out alot. All i keep hearing in this forum is how great and problem free the beads work.
