Hey everyone,

Here's my introduction...

I've got a lot to read and a lot of questions... which may (certainly be answered by reading). :-)

Right now I am a weekend-relax-on-the-patio smoker with a Hey-let's-try-this-one approach to cigars.

In the past couple of weeks I purchased a sampler-humidor combo (which came without a hygrometer).
I have smoked about 10 cigars and I bought 2 more samplers (1 with 10 90-rated cigars and - with 10 brown bag cigars.)

My background with cigars is simply smoking one at the end of formal military dinners, or my son bringing one to smoke on Fathers day.
The latter went really good with coffee. I was impressed.

My wife is concerned that I will become addicted, but I really enjoy my patio moments with a beverage and a cigar.

Because someone will ask:
CWO = Chief Warrant Officer (USN ret.)
LDO =  Limited Duty Officer (Similar to CWO)
JAX = Lives in Jacksonville FL
(
CAUTION: Trying to pronounce CWOLDOJAX as a word may cause people to fit you with a white jacket with long sleeves that tie in the back.)

Welcome to the neighborhood. I hope you enjoy all that this group has to offer. If you really want to get a jump on figuring out premium cigars, check out the sampler pass set up specifically for those new to forum.

Also, let your wife know that cigars are not physically addictive. Matter of fact it's been shown that the simple act of slowing down for the duration of a cigar greatly reduces stress. So in reality you are doing this for your health. [emoji6]

Welcome from STL nicely done.

Nice intro. Welcome from Colorado Springs. Thanks for your service. The Newbie Sampler Trade (mentioned above) is an excellent source for some great smokes - try it.

As someone who started off smoking cigars in exactly the same way you did and is now up to no less than 4 per day I can tell you that they are addictive, well at least the nicotine is addictive. Of course, I am a very addictive personality type, so I have a propensity to take everything to an extreme.

Welcome from the cold north.

I started the same way you did about six months ago.

Now i'm staring at 3 humidors and about 300 sticks. So get ready for a fun ride! :)

And my wife, too, was afraid of the same thing. We did some research together and checked into the statistics and now she has one with me every week or so. For me, the collecting is far more addicting than the smoking.

So get your credit card ready... lol.

Welcome to the board, you found a great place.  I also recommend the newbie sampler trade, can't go wrong with it.

As for your wife's concern, you have three addictions going on here.  The first, nicotine, is well known so I won't go much into that.  The second is the want to try as many cigars as you can.  That is what kills your budget.  The third is the camaraderie.  You'll meet some nice people in this hobby and just wanting to meet up for a herf can be addicting.  Just find yourself a nice balance and you will be fine.

Enjoy.

Thank you for taking the time to write a nice intro. Welcome to CP from Maryland. Are you a Jags fan? Light up a stick and pour an adult beverage for me! Cheers!

Welcome from a fellow Floridian in Ft Lauderdale. How our state has three crapy pro football teams is a mystery to me.

:( yes -  I'm home team fan... When they are winning I fall back on my KC Chiefs... who aren't doing so well either.

I should read more about that is there more in this forum or another reference?
Thanks everyone, for the warm welcome!

You might need to clarify, to which point are you referring?

The Newbie sampler trade is in the buy/sell/trade forum.

Sorry.  I was referring to the addiction/health related info.

I enjoyed 2 sticks today and I have admit I enjoyed the relaxation part.  My lunch hour should be a longer hour :-)
