Cigar locker at the local B&M store

It looks like I might be going out of town again in the new year for a long assignment. I was thinking about renting a locker a the local cigar shop for $350 a year. Anyone else rent a storage locker at their cigar shop? God, bad, indifferent?

I think it all depends on what else is offered. What other things? the local place here has a very nice smoking room for members only.

Harris and I were at a shop with a locker a few weeks ago. He opened up the bottom, and there was nothing but one of those small plastic room humidifiers spewing out un-regulated humidity. There were no controls on it to set the humidity level. It (over)humidified about a hundred small lockers stacked on top of it. Scary.

You're probably better of sending your stash to a BOTL, who will store them in exchange for a "small smoking consideration" :D

I agree, send them to someone you can trust. I don't trust any store locker. Who knows, the owner might be nosy and look at your stash. Humidity level's and temp is very important. What if the place get burglarized? What if the guy can't make his rent and the store gets shut down? Personally, it's not for me.

I would concur, and unless you have thousands it shouldn't be a big issue to pack them up and move them. I would think temp and humidity are of special concern in AZ  You don't want to come back to find the stash ruined.

I'm smoking an isom right now that has spent the past several years in a locker. The taste is underwhelming thus far, the stick seems a bit firm and lacking any oils on the wrapper, I'm guessing this one has not received ample humidity and has dried out.

That exact same thing happened to a good friend of mine - he had a storage locker in a store, with about $500.00 worth of smokes locked up. The business went bankrupt... He tried to get the sticks back, but noone seems to know what happened to them...

There's no other options (family member to take care of them? friend perhaps?) If you can leave the smokes with someone you trust, just give them instructions on what to do while you're gone and you should have peace of mind.

Set up a coolerdor with beads and see if you can find someone to baby sit them for you. Beads are pretty much fool proof so it's not like it's a huge chore for someone to check the humidity once a week and add water if necessary.

I would NOT rent a locker in a local cigar shop for the reasons listed in other posts in this thread.

I was in this situation once. The way I solved it was inviting some friends over, smoking one cigar and giving the other three away.

I agree with the general opinion of others here. i wouldn't store mine in a locker either. Find someone you trust and set-up a coolidor for them to look after. I think that's your best option.

I trust my cigars at the place I stash mine at. I work there and know the owner well enough that his store won't go bankrupt. I find it better to store my cigars for the long haul at a constant temperature; like storing wine in a cellar. My house tempature fluctuates.
