Cigar Humidor Divider & Humidity Question

I want to know if the dividers in a humidor affect the way that the humidity reaches all areas of the humidor. I have two large racks with small slits in the bottom of them. I’m concerned that the racks will block the moisture from getting through from the top to the bottom evenly.

I will keep silicon humidity beads on the top and bottom and hope that the middle section stays somewhat the same as the other areas. I wonder how evenly the humidity is throughout the humidor while using racks.

The humidor is 24 5/8" x 17 1/2" x 15 5/16" inches and is supposed to hold 600 cigars to give you an idea of its size.

Should I take the racks out to make the environment more even inside or does the moisture get through the racks OK?

Your comments and suggestions are always appreciated. I haven’t bought my humidity beads yet because of other projects I've been involved with lately but I’m ready to get this going. I’m buying the humidity beads based solely on the advice of this group and it was a unanimous decision to get the silicon humidity beads and that made me a believer. Since everyone suggested using the Heartfelt Industries humidity beads that is what I’ll be using unless someone knows of a way I can save money by purchasing beads from another company without sacrificing quality because I don’t want junk.

I’ll also be buying the sock but they call it a “Small Nylon Mesh Bag” that they sell for $3.28 each. Each bag is 3" x 8" inches and is supposed to hold a half pound of Heartfelt Beads although they don’t say whether this is wet or dry weight but I assume its dry weight.

They also sell the Heartfelt 65% Humidity Sheet 19.5x19.5 inches for $30.00. I wonder if anyone has tried this. It seems like a good way to go also. Maybe I should try using them both? I’m thinking out loud again.

Your comments and opinions are always appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Anaheim Dennis

You should occasionally rotate your stock.  I put a false planked bottom on my humidor so air circulates to the underside of the stacked cigars.  It has worked well for me.

Yes, a false bottom or an "air flow rack" whatever you want to call it, is something that I've looked into. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time finding one that will fit the bottom of my new humidor. My Cigar Star came with one.  I'm looking for someone who will make a custom one or who will build one with the dimensions that I give them. And I can not make one myself anymore. I'm disabled so I have to have everything done for me. But I'm having a hard time finding anyone who will make one. Thanks for the answer.

Right now, I am extremely busy working on my property (new roofs, gutters and cleaning up after my trees).  I can help, but it won't be before winter.

Thanks for the offer. If I don't get one before winter I will work out a deal with you. In the meantime good luck with the house.

If you need a custom shelf or drawer built, you should talk to Golfnut (Forrest).  He makes some top notch stuff, and his prices are pretty reasonable.

In addition to rotating your stock, I have seen a lot of people use a fan to circulate the air in the humi.  I small battery operated fan for a few mins does wonders, from what I have heard.  I have never tried it.

Thank-you very much for this suggestion. Maybe he'll make me a rack for my humidor. I just feel that it works better that way. Also thanks for the fan suggestion. Other people have told me that my humidor isn't large enough to require a fan but I will look into it. A fan could only help with making the humidity levels more even throughout the humidor. Thanks again.
