Cigar disposal

My ashtray is a ceramic flower pot on the table outside. When it gets filled, I dump it into a plastic Wal-Mart bag, tie it twice, and drop it in the trash can. Pretty high-level stuff...

That's a good price until you add the shipping cost, $25 to NY. I checked Amazon and they have a 4 Gal one for $12.99 shipped for prime members. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on that one. Also, I might purchase the watering can Doc mentioned. Thanks gentlemen!

I always wondered about this and I'm sure there are a few plumbers on CP. My father in law used to put cigarettes (which I think would be worse) in the toilet and I don't think there were ever plumbing issue. I'm sure septic would be worse than sewer, but if it's a cigar butt, then it's compostable material just like the other stuff that goes down there and should break down accordingly, yeah?

My godfather was a plumber."Never put anything down a toilet that didn't come out of you, except toilet paper." Sure cigars are biodegradable, but how long is that going to take? Longer than you think. Plug up your main drain and you got a big bill coming your way; not to mention the mess and aggravation from your wife. There are better ways to get rid of your cigar butts.

Thanks for finding that. So what is this water can thing that Doc is talking about? I’m interested in learning more.

I smoke in my home office, with a window exhaust fan, and empty my ashtray into a clay pot on the front porch that (eventually) gets emptied into the trash every once in awhile. But that looks like a better option, since I'm so lazy about walking the pot around the side of the house to the trash it's always got butts scattered around it.

The ashes go over the deck into the grass/shrubs, the buts go into the fire pit.
 
Because of the pups...I don't throw the stubs in the yard/bushes.
Instead, I will either:
1) Let them sit on the fence (metal rail) and throw away (in the trash) in a day or so.
2) Put out in a 5 gal Home Depot bucket we have...it's about 1/3 filled with water - and has a cover.

I'll then take the water bucket and throw it in 'bed' out front. :D
 
I've just been letting them die out, then taking them apart and making pipe tobacco out of them :)
