:angry2: A little piece of advice. If you are going to run a special, call it that. Don't say something that is not true. This a good way to lose anything that you've gained around here.

What part are you having a problem with? Are you saying that those prices aren't his cost?

I didn't want to go here. Maybe that is the price you paid for the Fonseca, if you went through a distributor and not direct. What about the Montesino, I know you have a Fuente account.

Diplomatico Maduro $46.86
#1 $55.45
Gran Corona $$64.04

Another piece of advice, stop while your ahead and admit your mistake.

I thought his prices on the Montesinos seemed a little high to be "cost" as well. However, it might well be what he paid for them. Even if he has a Fuente account, does not mean that he bought the cigars from them. It is possible that he bought them from a distributor like HJ Bailey or Arango. Just because you have a Fuente account does not mean you use them ALL of the time. My local guy regularly buys Fuentes from HJ Bailey, Arango, and other distributors. Why? Because he can get what he wants and he can get them quicker.

Instead of publically calling him out, did you try to PM him first? Did you ask why he paid those prices? Where he bought the cigars? I have no problem with you questioning prices, but you did so in an unnecessarily confrontational way. No need to attack a vendor that, by most accounts, has been honorable and decent to deal with. Next time, try dealing with it privately. If you are unsatisfied by the results, call him out.

Agreed, my tone was very harsh. I am not saying that Gabriel is a bad vendor. By all all accounts he's a wonderful vendor. However, I do have a problem with someone being here for 30 days and possibly trying to take advantage of or be dishonest with the people at CP, many of whom I call friends. I will call someone out publicly every time with the same tone whether here or anywhere else if I think they may be trying to take advantage of my friends.

Well said!

Puff you say "if you think he is taking advantage"
The Dawg is right - take it private first, establish if your "thoughts"
are correct and then call him out.

You know, the first thing that occurred to me in this little spat was simple mudslinging by Puffstuff, since he's a vendor as well. That's just one reason why this should have been handled privately.

It's usually best to have your facts strait before you start talking shit.

Don't think it's a vendor vs vendor thing. Regardless if Al is a vendor, he pointed out a price discrepancy.

Would you have thought the same thing if I or anyone else pointed out the problem?

Gonz, this has nothing to do with mudslinging. My intentions are not to hurt another vendor. If I wanted to do that I would just post right behind him every time he posted and beat his prices. Where I have a problem is when you have a Fuente or Padron account or any other hard to get cigars. The amount of the hard to get cigars are in direct proportion to what you buy of their lower end stuff. I would never use a distributor to buy low end Fuente or Padron cigars because I would not get the high end products. So maybe you should get your facts straight before you post.

Al

No, I wouldn't have thought it was a case of a vendor trying to one-up another vendor who has come around offering some really good deals lately, hence taking away from their business. However, as a vendor you would think it common knowledge that not everyone gets their product for the same exact wholesale prices. And like Cigardawg mentioned, it's entirely possible that for reasons of expediency, he didn't buy some of those directly through his fuente account. If it was just a regular member calling them out, then I would be even more curious about where they got their information from.

Either way, it's entirely possible, and it seems likely that Gabriel paid the wholesale prices he posted for his cigars. Just because someone has a different method or way of thinking for how they aquire their cigars doesn't mean that everyone has to use it. It's simply bad form to call out another vendor when you don't have your facts strait, or haven't even attempted to resolve or question the matter privately.

Also, last time I checked, being around for 30 days, or six months, or even a year doesn't really make much of a difference. What I'm saying is you can't call someone a newbie and use that as justification for your actions when you yourself aren't exactly a veteran around here. Neither am I, or anyone who has the 05 after their join date.

Exactly what you said, you would never do it that way. Doesn't mean that Gabriel follows the same philosophy. And last time I checked, stating an opionion i.e. "You know, the first thing that occurred to me in this little spat was simple mudslinging by Puffstuff" does not warrant "getting my facts strait". I was simply stating the way your accusations came accross to me.

Agreed, Gonz. My feeling on this is that if you post something publicly you should be ready to defend it publicly. I may be wrong on this and i'm sure i'll here about it if that's the case. I do apologize to Gabriel if this seems like a vendor to vendor attack, because it is not. As I stated before, I believe he is a good vendor, I've never said he is not. I called out a publicly posted discrepency and I am comfortable with that.

Al

Thanks for keeping an eye out Puffy. Your observations are dead center. This person is here to sell cigars and is not above scrutiny.

I don't think the question here is whether or not he is above scrutiny, but rather, whether taking this scrutiny publically immediately was the right thing to do. I think Al would be happy to admit he may have jumped to conclusions a touch quickly, and he said as much, it wasn't out of malice; if anything, it was probably as you pointed out, he's looking out for us. He was just a little too eager. I don't really see how anything wrong was done here - both Al and Gabriel seem to be looking out for the better of CigarPass (or at least, no one is looking to take advantage...)
