Hello everyone! I’ve been needed to replace my humidor set up and this cigar cabinet fell on my lap. It came with large “Humidifresh” humidifier. Per the seller it works, it’s just been sitting a while (it was pretty dusty but in otherwise good shape.) my question is, what is the best way to clean out the Humidifresh? How should I maintain it?

As for the cabinet, should I go to my local B&M to get some old boxes to organize all my loose sticks?

I have some trays that are for the same humidor I don't use id be willing to sell if interested for singles. As for the humidifier I would open it up make sure there is no mold growing in it. Clean it out with a mild soap, rinse well, and let it dry out. If it uses wicks it would defiantly need new ones.

I’d love to grab some trays off of you, could you DM me some pics? As far is “wicks” I’m not sure what that is, could you please explain. Thanks for the help!

I'd go a bit more aggressive on the humidifier than mild soap. I'd rinse the tank out, and wipe everything down with IPA (isopropyl alcohol), including the fans. Try to get all the nooks and crannies, use Q-Tips to get the corners. No question the wick(s) have to go, replace appropriately. Then fill with a DI / Colloidal silver mix as has been discussed in the forum. Mold is awful, effort to get all the spores and traces out will be of benefit going forward.

IPA isn't 'rubbing alcohol' and doesn't have fragrance or emollients in it (read the ingredients). You can get small cans of IPA in the paint and stain section of Home Depot or Lowe's or something similar. It'll quickly and completely evaporate.

I'm running 3 Govee hygrometers in my tall cabinet, and really like them. So inexpensive that running one top, mid, and bottom is easy to do. Salt test them, and put them into service. Nice to be able to check them without opening the cabinet.

And.....enjoy..!! Having storage with active humidification is really nice. I've had my Staebell for a long time, it's truly as close to 'set and forget' as you'll get.

Thanks for the info! I will look for wicks online. I need to by some more hygrometers so I will buy some as well! I’ll report back as soon as I get it back up and running.

Nice humidor. I have one very similar to that (same size, just different style), and I bought the Cigar Oasis humidifier, which is pretty much the same as what you have. It just sat on the bottom. I had nothing but trouble with getting even humidity, so I upgraded to an Avallo, where canisters are spread throughout the humidor. In case you have RH issues, and the seal is good on the humidor, it'll most likely be the humidifier. Just a tip in case you encounter the same issues I did. You could also try putting RH beads throughout the humidor to help level out humidity.

I would also use a bit heavier concentration of colloidal silver for a while, maybe before you even put your stuff in the humidor.

Colloidal silver is excellent at keeping mold at bay.

Good to know! I’ll look into that!
