Cigar buying season

When I purchase wine directly from a wineries mailing list there is a shipping season, generally October through April, when the weather is cooler. Exposing wine to drastic fluctuations in temperature will ruin a wine so a reponsible winery will hold shipments until this window.

As the temperatures across the country begins to climb I was wonderinig about cigar shipments. Do many people purchase cigars only during a certain time of the year when shipping temperatures are lower? Sometimes a cigar shipment can take 7-14 days, It would seem that exposing cigars to high temperatures for that period of time wouldn't be good for them.

it's definitely a consideration that I make.

even if a package is sent via priority mail within the US, three days of elevated heat, while in transit, might not ruin the cigars, per se, but it might be just enough of a catalyst for those damn beetles to start to "wake up". ???

I tend to buy a lot less from about June through September but I still buy and trade during the summer months. That might change if I ever happen upon any of those evil little beetles :0

I have found that my "cigar buying season" comes shortly after "tax return season"!!! :laugh:

Interesting thoughts .... I think I'll be adopting the idea of doing major purchases during the cooler weather.

You'll also notice that the Passes also slow down during the summers. I also think that peoples stashes will also diminish during the better smoking months, as opposed to the stashes increasing when it's cold/snowy/rainy and basically *****y outside.

So far I seem to have had a season for buying cigars, that's when I've started my summerjob after my studies are over for the semester. Scary.

I am the opposite here in sotuh Florida. It is so damn hot during the day, I smoke less. At night it is nice. But hi 80's with the humidity levels sitting at %80 feels like a sauna.

I agree Emo. When it hits 100 here, I don't smoke at all. I do however smoke late late at night or early Saturday/Sunday mornings when it's 80 out.

My thoughts exactly. You just never know when you'll see it again at that price. Have to pull the trigger.

Any reputible cigar retailer should be using humidification solution to ship cigars. Humidification solution regulates temperature and humidity. I dipped a small piece of Cedar wood into Humid-EZE humidification solution then dropped it in a zip-loc with a Diamond Crown Hygrometer/Thermometer and took it golfing :0 . The hygrometer stayed between 70-75% and the temperature never passed 75 degrees even in Floridas heat. :thumbs:
