Picked up some empty boxes from the local B&M to fill space in my new 66 qt tub. Problem is that the shop has a smoking area that is right next to where they stack the freebie boxes.

The boxes have a bit of a smokey odor to them. Is this ok for use in the humi or should I find some that are scent free?

Funny you should mention this. I went to my local B&M today for the first time and also got some free boxes and a few other items. I left them in my car all afternoon while at work and when I went to leave I noticed my car smelled like smoke. I'm not sure if it was the boxes, the bag, the box the ashtray was in, or all of the above.

When I got home I unpacked everything and tossed the trash in a can outside. When I opened the empty boxes I got one of them had a nice block of cedar in it that pretty much overpowered the smoke smell. I loaded them up and put them in my cooler along with the cedar block which I left loose. It's been in there about 3 1/2 hours and I don't detect any smoke smell at all now.

if they aren't scent free, you can always use a dab of baking soda in a dish for a few hours to pickup the rest of that smoke odor?

I let them air out for a couple days and the odor is pretty much gone.
Got them sitting with some baking soda to kill the last bit before I put them in the humidor.
