China Cabinet to a Cabinet Humi?

I'm not sure this could work or not, so I'm going to enlist the knowledge here along with some experimentation to see. I'm thinking the top for display and the drawers for storage.

I understand that I'll have to improve/apply seals to the cabinet doors and drawers, as well as get inside and seal all of the seams inside the cabinet. I have the cabinet, it was a freebie, and I'm thinking silicone for the inside (not visible) seals, and seals on the doors and visible areas that blend in. I also understand that I'll need a fair bit of cedar to line EVERYTHING with, lol. This will be a work in progress, so I'm fine with being patient.

My questions are:
1. Is it do-able?
2. What would be the best choice for humidification?
3. What are the options to seal this thing?

I've used the search feature as well as google, and found some great info, but would like to poll for opinions here as well.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge brothers.

I always love to re-purpose a piece of furniture as opposed to making something new. It will cost you about the same as if you were to get a cabinet built, due to the fact that you will need to line it. For the lining you can use either Spanish Cedar, Honduran Mahogany or Sapelle.

I would not worry about sealing the unit with silicone. Once you line it, you will have a pretty good seal. The doors just need to shut and pass the "Dollar Bill" test. You definitely want to make sure that you are getting some transfer of air so a perfect seal is not necessary.

As far as humidification it is up to you. Do you want an active or passive system? I would use an Avallo, or Oasis or similar product if I was doing it. However, you could also use beads or KL.

Good luck, and let me know if you need more in depth information as I have "Converted" many a piece of furniture into cigar humidors.

Hope this helps brother!
