Cheap Humidors

I purchased a small humidor just to get me started the other night. Might hold 15 cigars if I am lucky. It came with sponge-like deal to put the distilled water in but no meter. (excuse me to my newness as I don't have the terminology all down yet)

My question is what could I use as a meter and where could I get one? I really don't want to get something overly expensive right now for such a cheap humidor, but I would like to have 'something'.

Whats funny is that even for such a cheap humidor, it seals up really well and has some pretty decent hinges on it. I saw some really really cheap ones that were more expensive than this one, and brand new the hinges were falling apart, the construction was crap. Hell I could have made a better humidor out of a kleenex box than some of these things lol!

I know you all are going to be more into this than I right now. But I have to start somewhere, and you all looked like a very nice group to me, that might put up with my 'newbness' for a little while hehe.

You would definitely want to get a digital/adjustable hygrometer. Don't think of it as too much for your current humidor, as you will definitely end up upgrading to a bigger humidor if you stick with cigar smoking. Without the ability to be adjusted, you will not be able to account for inaccuracies in the unit.

x2 on the adjustable digital hygrometer.

It may seem like more than you want to spend, $20 for the fancy adjustable digital one when you can by a basic analog for a few bucks, but it is worth the expense. You need to remember even if you only have 10 $3 cigars in there you still have $30 worth of cigars that can be completely ruined if they get too dry or two damp. Odds are your going to have more cigars than 10 in there and many will be worth more than $3. Getting a good hygrometer is one place where you shouldn't skimp.

And don't forget, if you decided to get into this hobby and get a bigger humidor you can always move the hygrometer to the bigger humidor.

I bought a $6 digital hygrometer from wal-mart. It is only off by 1%. I also took the back clip off and drilled 5 holes around sides to allow air in.

Yeah spring for a digi hygrometer.... you'll be glad you did. Depending on how often you come on this website, you'll outgrow that humi FAST.

Of course I had to get a divorce but I'm happily married now hehe. All this hanging out on this board makes me want to go home and light one up! Sucks that is sooo cold outside..but soon I will be in sunny 80 degree weather.
