Champion and Enchantment

Today, I attempted to smoke a Punch Champion. I was unsure how to approach it, but as the end appeared to be pre-clipped, I proceeded to light it as usual. However, perhaps due to poor rolling or my lighting job was not perfect, the burn was terribly uneven. I even *gasp* tried to apply the torch to the side that was not burning properly. As the champion is not too expensive, I was not upset about the problem. However, I picked up a VSG enchantment, and it has been sitting in the humidor.

Is uneven burn a trait of odd shaped sticks like the enchantment and champion, or was it most likely that the champ was just poorly rolled. I would love to try the enchantment, but do not want to ruin it if there is some special way to light it (or do I have to clip it at the part with the most girth?). Any tips?

gotta stick up for my fav cheapos!

I think the punch champion is a great stick considering it's only 4 bones! I've never had a issue with burn problems, although a torch on that cigar, might be a little muhc. use a match next time and just lite the tiny little hole on the end.

The enchanment is awesome too, very nice choices on both!

So it should burn down properly, despite the shape bowing out from there?

It could also be high humidity in your humidor. My $0.02

It should burn properly despite it's shape.

You can read a lot about this, but the burn can be affected by the humidity of the cigar. Basically the cigar should burn pretty evenly (no "coning" or "tunneling"). For a small uneveness in the burn, just let the cigar rest in the ashtray with the slowburning side down. It will probably fix itself. If it needs a little touch-up with the lighter, that's ok too.

I don't know of any cigar that is "designed" to burn unevenly....watch now, some wiseguy will post of picture of some cigar that looks like a cartoon cactus.

Cheers,
Joe

I've only had one of the Champions, but I've got a few aging. I've not had issues with burn on the Enchantment, or Short Story, or WOA, which are similar figurados. Generally, while they might get a little uneven to start, as the burn line passes over the thickest part of the cigar they straigten out.

Just the same, there's nothing wrong with touching them up to keep 'em honest. ;)

If you think it is high humidity, dry dry boxing one for 2 days and see if it improves the burn. Some cigars burn a lot better on the dry side, and some taste better.

did anybody read this.it sounds to me like he smoked it backwards.
lighting the small end with the big "clipped" in in your mouth would definately affect the burn.

if thats the case you may need to rethink how you smoke the the enchantment. the end that is closed is the end you clip and and the open end is where you light.

if i misunderstood im sorry but thats how i read it

Check your RH. If you must smoke a Champion, it's gotta be something other than the shape that's giving you problems. If a Drew Estates "Egg" can be smoked, damn near anything else can be.

$0.02 for your piggy bank

Stick with the Enchantment. An extra penny there ;)

No, I did not smoke it backwards! :p The shape of it is basically conical, with an additional small end after the largest part of the cone. I lit the small pre-cut end (and used my punch for opening the correct end). The burn started off perfect, but as it got to the largest diameter, it started to leave one side unburned, giving it a shovel shape. I try to turn it and such, so perhaps humidity was the problem.

Yes, I agree with emodx. Regards, knightlaird

like i said just wondering, wathed a guy at the cigar shop clip the foot of a fuente hemingway then cut off the tip and lit it. said he couldnt figure out why they made the end so hard to light

sometimes you just wanna strangle people :p

the enchantment should be a much more enjoyable experience :D

I tried a Cohiba red dot robusto and fell in love with it. I picked up two more from the same box, tossed them in the humidor and let them sit. When I smoked the second one, it must have been either discrepancy in rolling between the two or way too moist, because the draw was tough enough to turn me blue. I would rather just chalk it up to the moisture, that way I don't feel like I wasted the cash on cigars that can't keep consistency from one to another :D
