I was privileged to have been gifted a 2009 CFC 22 box. I am hoping to seal this box good enough to use as a "loose" stick humi. I am planning to line the lid perimeter with felt liner but was wondering what would be the best and safest glue. Or should I resort to stapling???

I am hoping to keep ideal humidity with the liner but if all else fail, the box will be going in the cooler. TIA!

Best,

Joe

Probably easier, and a better seal, to use weather stripping. And since it's got one side that's adhesive, you don't have to worry about what glue to use.
Chris

I would imagine that you could use spray adhesive (like car headliner spray). As long as you let it gas out for a couple days you shouldn't have to worry about transferring smell/taste to your sticks.

Joe I don't think it would be worth the effort. Maybe inside a coolidor, but not as a stand alone. If they are like the earlier 22 boxes I just don't see it. YMMV

The only other thing to consider is the hinges. I had a small desk top that wasn't holding well so I looked at some options but due to the hinges being flush in the wood (for the seal) any thing that added even the smallest amount of spacing along the edges caused stress on the hinges and caused a worse seal.

Does the current box have the wider cedar strips that a lot of regular boxes use for a seal?
if not, and you can't get cedar wide and ling enough, placing any sort of "rubber" seal in the inside vertical surface, and letting it function as a typipal type box or humidor seal might do the trick.

Good suggestion there!

As Ben would say:

Now that's a good idea. Thanks.

The CFCF boxes have gone down hill the last few years. Anyway to maximize profit on them. I wouldn't trust using one outside a controlled environment. But one could run a test with some beads in it and a digital RH%. Then watch it for a couple of weeks and see how it holds the humidity naturally. They are prone to warping so one may need to keep weight on it at all times.

I agree. It is sad to see a once prestigious brand start to pull things like this. After all, you definitely pay a pretty penny for these.
