Cedar sheets line tuperdor interior

I scavenged a bunch of thin cedar divider sheets from my buddy's cigar shop humidor and cut them and hot glued them to the interior surfaces of a rubbermaid container.
Filled it with smokes and a small creedo and analog hygrometer. After a couple of weeks of RH fluctuation and comparing hygro readings with a digital hygrometer alongside the analog one, the RH has stabilized (upper 60's) and I don't even have a creedo in there lately (but I check it almost daily). I also placed a couple of cedar blocks (spacers) that came from other cigar boxes in there .
If the hot glue isn't a concern (?) this was an inexpensive, easy modification to improve "cheapo" storage.

Hey Capt. Leafheart, that sounds like a great setup! How much was the total cost?

I just finished my coolerdor
50 quart Costco Cooler $20.00 It even came with a little travel coolerdor
Digital Hygrometer $15.00
2-1/4" Spanish Cedar planks cut to size $10.00
Homemade credo $0.00 I made this from a floppy disk case with holes drilled and oasis from a friend who's family owns a flower shop. It's really cheap anyway.
I also bought some gel "Big Easy Humidifier Gel". $10.00 I don't know how good this is and I didn't really need it, I could always make more credo's with the leftover oasis.

All in all, I got a lot of storage (just need to get the cigars now) for a total of $45.00 and whenever I open it up, it smells freakin great! I just want to climb in there, but it's not THAT big.

hey Shibumi,
if you hang around here long you're going to wish you had a bigger coolidor! I jumped from my 100 count desktop humi to a 100qt coolidor and I'm now wishing I had gone the full sized costco 153qt!!

that was when I first made it... I just bought 2 boxes of cigars online and I need to try and find room in it now before they arrive... I think my neighbor is getting his weekly bomb from me!

also, look into the beads... they are too awesome for words. Just wet-n-forget... I haven't done anything to mine in a month and RH is hanging perfectly at 65% (you can get 70% beads too...) I put cedar linings under my wire shelves, and I agree.. teh smell is intoxicating when you open it up. just wait until it's full of cigars...

Oh man that is one nice setup. I thought about that wire and even went to home depot for it, but found the cedar. I plan on routing out some slots for circulation. I don't see myself filling this too fast right now, unless my boss decides to give me a raise. I'd say the next for me would be that 153qt with the little upper door to store singles. I saw that also. ;)

Shibumi,
The Rubbermaid container was (I think) $8.00, the cedar sheets were n/c, the cedar blocks came in cigar boxes as spacers, the wifey had the hot glue gun laying around (I won't go into what it's costing me to keep her around. Actually, I married Mrs. Right. I just didn't know her middle name was "Always".), small creedo and analog hygrometer from humis in which I've upgraded those components.
Like I said, "cheapo!".

Those coolerdors look....cool! That'll be next for me, no doubt.
Working my way up to a fridgerdor.

Thanks... I have since cut off the front lip on the shelves, and the photos don't show the cedar I added. I used the wire since I saw a few photos of coolidors that used cedar shelves that were bowing due to the weight they carried! Sure it was thinner pieces, but I thought i'd play it safe! I'm glad I did... I can't believe how many cigars i have added. routing or drilling holes for circulation woud be a good thing to do... it doesn't look like you'll get much right now. Also, the remote sensor is a nice thing to have- you can check the RH without opening the door and losing a bunch, just to check numbers. I have an extra radio Shack model if you are interested...they are discontinued, but you can find the Oregon Scientific version easily

You'll find lots of trades, guys selling off extras, others doing box splits, random 'bombings' and more. Plus, as I found, once you find a cigar you really really liked, you'll want to get a box of them asap. Not to mention just about everyone will tell you aging them makes them even better, so I got a couple of boxes, labeled them 'do not touch' and will let them sit for a year or two... if I can!

and stay away from cigarbid... trust me on this one! that's the reason I'm going to have to try and find room in my coolidor this weekend... ;)

Plenty of room in my cooler for you to store your overage! :whistling:. How much for that Radio Shack hygrometer? I wanted the remote sensor model.

I found my favorite cigar, it's what started me on this hobby, the Padron 2000 Maduro and I'm looking to buy a box in the next few days (sold something on ebay). I also love the edge missile Maduro and should be meeting Rocky Patel at the end of the month (can't wait) I'll have to buy a box of those so he can sign it. Well that takes care of this months pay. At least I'll have cigars, right? I have also been buying and trying all different types of cigars over the past few months and still come back to those two. They taste great and are within my price range. I actually grabbed an ashton VSG today on my way home, but it's sleeping right now.

I see people throwing fridges away in my neighborhood all the time, but I don't have that kind of need yet. Or the strength to drag it home or even the room in my apartment.

Be careful with the hot glue gun approach. Depending on the type of glue that is used, it can leave a very strong chemical smell for quite some time.

Luckily, there's no odor from the glue.

Gee, that's original... where'd I hear that before... hmmm, lemme see...

As far as the RS hygrometer, I bought it for $35, so if you want it for that it's yours. Otherwise I'll keep it as a spare. The Oregon Scientific can be found on Amazon.Com for $49... but it's not discontinued like the Radio Shack version (there is an updated RS model # 63-1089)

 Oh well a fella has to try, right?

I'll let you know about the hygrometer. I just bought a box of padron 2000 today, so I have to wait on any other purchases.

Thanks
