I was in my local B&M shop this week and asked if they had anything interesting that wasn't on display. The shopkeeper pulled down a brand new box of Casa Fuente Robutos (5.3 x 50). Dispite the asking price which I'm embarassed to confess, I picked on up. I've never reviewed a cigar and I'm somewhat new to them but I thought I'd share my experience with this one.
The Cigar:
Casas Fuente Robusto. What a great looking cigar. Medium dark and rich looking. Perfect construction and shape.
The Drink:
Homemade Bacardi Mojito. I also sat down and turned on Letters from Iwo Jima.
The Light:
The cap was immaculate and easy to cut. After a toast of the foot, it took a few matches to get this smoke lit. I got sort of a half way light but it quickly evened out.
The Begining:
The first taste was a little peppery and mild underneath. First draw and the start of the burn were easy and even. The ash was the whitest I've ever seen.
The Middle:
This thing really started to open up. I usually can't identify flavors in a cigar but I could really taste a roasted earthyness and malty flavored long finish. It was actually pretty hard to concentrate on the flavors as it just about put me in a trance. As you can see, razor straight burn. I lost that ash taking the band off.
The End:
This smoke was good to the last inch. It stayed cooler than any other cigar I've tried and although the flavors got more intense, they were still balanced and very enjoyable.
What a great smoke. As I've said, I haven't smoked a ton of cigars but I can tell that experiences like this are the reason we smoke. If you can get your hands on one of these, give it a try and send me a PM where I can find more!
