Cigar: CAO “VR” Mural 4.5 x 44
$22.00 a fiver @ CI
$15.00 @ CBID

Cutter: Due to relatively small ring gauge I went with key chain punch

Day in Review: Morning was spent doing laundry and cleaning the house, those with children will appreciate this as a daily event. My parents are in the process of buying a new home and my mother is a little stressed about it, so I decide to surprise her at work and take her out for lunch. As a side note, if you’re ever in Akron head to Crave and try the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Upon arriving home my daughter was fast a sleep so I went to do a little work in the garden. After harvesting some broccoli, peppers and eggplant there was nothing left to do so I decide to put up the umbrella a settle in for a smoke.

I choose the “VR” since I have gifted a few but had not smoked one myself yet, small size small would allow for quick afternoon smoke. Total burn time was Approx. 40 mins

Initial Impression: As with all CAO’s I’ve had construction was good, no large veins and smooth wrapper. The wrapper was slight less oily than I expected and stick on a whole seem tight. I began to fear that draw would be tight

Cut: As stated I went with punch cutter due to small ring gauge and feel I made the right choice. Pre-light draw was much looser than I had expected.

Light: Toasted foot and lit with no problems. First few puffs weren’t harsh, but left the taste of to much white pepper on palate. This corrected its self after the first few puffs and yield to smoother taste of coffee and a hint of cedar on exhale. At this point smoke was light and white. As I continued the cigar began develop spicy notes that did not hang on my palate very long, it was fairly enjoyable thus far.

Half way through the taste of white pepper returned as smoke volumes increased. Cigar began to suffer from a run on the bottom side, which was easily correctable by rotating the cigar. The white pepper taste began to become overpowering as it was not a spicy taste, but more a lingering heat of bad chicken wings. I considered calling it a day, but soldiered on.

I am happy to report that the last third was quite nice, the weird lingering taste went away and mellowed into a rich taste of espresso, with a small hint of spice and good volumes of smoke. The last third was what I was expecting after reading reviews on other sites and I am glad that I decided to stick it out.

Conclusions: Not sure if the non-pleasant taste was just with this one stick, will have to revisit again after they nap a little longer. As with all CAO’s I have had this one was a well constructed stick. Not sure I would qualify this as a “go to” smoke, but with the price paid at CBid it is a solid smoke. Would recommend this as a good golfing/BBQ stick to share with friends
