This cigar has been sitting for almost a year and I was looking for something good to smoke tonight, have the house to myself, and gave it a shot. As soon as I grabbed it I wasnt sure. It was really light for its size, like there wasnt enough filler in it or something. Appearance wise it looked great, nice dark wrapper without flaws but it was just way too light. I was expecting a harsh hot smoke.

Snipped the end and the prelight draw was expectedly loose, and unexpectedly rather tasteless. Now, my tastebuds are on the fritz over the past week and a half so its entirely possible I just missed it. Toasted the foot and let her rip. A nice even burn throughout and the aroma was classic maduro but the flavor profile was lacking. It wasnt bad or nasty...just weak. No punch, no "wow" on this one. I had a Camacho Maduro earlier in the week that blew this smoke away. Nice clouds of blue smoke but I had to draw on it carefully so as not to over heat this thing. There was also a bit of tunneling which I was able to keep somewhat under control. Strangely the first half of the smoke was more flavorful than the second half and I found as the stick warmed up it loosened as well lending to a feeling of sucking air. The ash flaked off after a mere 1/4 inch which has never, ever happened with a CAO.

Not terrible but not great either. However, I will give this smoke a few more chances if I can, I really think I just had a crappy roll.

Thanks for the review and I hope they improve for you when you try again. I've never had a CAO with the symptoms that you had and hope I never do.

had a few of the CAO maddies and liked them. no experiences like what you describe.

but then again, i have had your type of experience with sticks that others rave about until the cows come home.

Haven't had the Maduro Belicoso, but I do like the Maduro Robusto quite a bit. Never had any burn or taste issues like you described.
