It is getting cold here in NY and I do not want to be standing on my deck freezing but still want to enjoy my sticks. I have read about these candles that you light and they eliminate the smell of smoke indoors.

Has anyone ever used these or know anything about them?

Thanks.

I don't know about the candles (i doubt they work very well, but could be mistaken). You definitely ought to get an air purifier if you plan on smoking indoors. It won't eliminate all of the cigar smell, but it helps. I keep one running all the time in my theatre/reading room, which is the only place I light up when inside.

I've heard the candles work great. Lord Byrons? After smoking burn it for two hours and in a couple of hours it should be gone. Eric uses them.

I'm interested in this as well. Anybody have experience with the smoke killing candles?

It's getting to be too cold to take it to the porch.....

I have one ("The Tobacco Outlets SMOKE ODOR EXTERMINATOR CANDLE"), which I think helps but the wifey hates it more than the cigar smoke. :whistling:
It's available in different "fragrances". I have the white one.
Available at your tobacconist.

Candles suck! you need a Lamp Berger. It's an ionizing lamp. It knocks the smoke out of the air. A few of our friends here have them. It's good for all kinds of household aromas and there are a host of fragrances. They have a neutral that just does the job with no sent at all. They start at about $50 and have all kinds of designs. We have guys that their wifes want them to smoke so the can light up the lamp.

Berger lamps are a good way to get rid of any offensive odor. 'Ol Outlawsc talked my wife into one. It works great.

Neutral huh? You guys didn't mention that to me when I ordered "juice" from you... Ocean Breeze is bit to perfumey (is that a word?) for me.

Forget candles, Lamp Berger.

I use one once in a while. It does seem to at the very least mask the smell. I wouldn't say it kills the odor, but does make it smell a lot better. As recommended earlier burn it for an hour or two.

That being said I will be getting an ionizer in the near future. That with the candle should be quite nice. North Dakota gets crazy cold in the winter. I'd likely have frostbite in places that should never get cold if I was to smoke outside in the winter. :D

Lampe Berger work great. Although for a large room or house, it'll take at least an hour to filter through most of the air.

I've smoked in the house a number of times. The lamp + Oust spray + a small prayer usually leaves the house smoke-free*.

*by definition, if the better half can't smell it...

Anyone got a linkie for this "lampe berger" thing? It's starting to get colder and danged if I'm going to go all winter without smokes. And I just managed to turn part of the basement into my office too.

OK, now here is a perfect Christmas gift for the wife (and the cigar smoker in the family :p )!

After the discussion here, I set out to learn what I could about the Lampe Berger (I still can not pronounce it correctly) and to perhaps purchase one of these. I currently have a Ecoquest Fresh Air unit, and it does a fine job of purifying the air, but at $400+ per unit I didn't want to buy another. When I smoke in different areas of the house I'd have to relocate the unit and let it run for a couple hours to kill the cigar smell.

So last week I received a Lampe Berger, fired it up and other than the fragrance being a bit over powering, it worked GREAT! So today I went ahead and ordered several more for Christmas gifts. Thought I'd pass on a couple tips on buying one of these.

Best deal I could find on a lamp with the oil (the oil is a bit expensive) was from a place in Florida called West Park Galleries. They are currently offering free shipping on orders over $50 and free Christmas wrapping. So if you get one of the lamps linked below, they come with a small bottle of neutral oil (a must have) and if you throw in a 16.9oz bottle of a fragrance you like, and you'll be over the $50 and it will be wrapped and ready for under the tree. :)

Here are the links to the ones a bought:

Lampe Berger Frosted Ribbed Jupon Lampe

Lampe Berger Clear Ribbed Jupon Lampe

Lampe Berger Red Ribbed Jupon Lampe

Lampe Berger Rose Ribbed Jupon Lampe

You can find some cheaper Lampe Berger out there, but without the oil included.

What I've found is if you dilute the fragrance oils with the neutral oil it tends to make the output a bit more subtle and not so over-powering. Also, do not fill the lampe more than 2/3 full, it will not work correctly if you do. (Learned that after a phone call to the vendor, helpful folks)

Trying to figure out the fragrances is a bit of a chore, unless you just happen to know what a Scandinavian Mist - Parfum De Maison smells like, the official Lampe Berger site has a description of the fragrances. It is some help.

The best place I found to buy the oils if you wish to stock up, was at eBay. The place on eBay I bought them from, averages out to about $13+ a bottle.

Well there you have it, my 2 cents. Thanks to those of you who suggested these.

I joined an HVAC board a while back to learn more about my system and looking at replacement alternatives.

Stories abound about people who burn scented candles and end up with lots of soot in their air filter and in the duct system. Apparently some candles can put off a lot of soot.

Be careful, you may be actually worsening your indoor air quality with these.

I recently bought a heaven fresh ionic air purifier ... I haven't tried it yet but i'll update you guys when I do. My friend works for the company and apparently if you plug in a little fan and move the air around in the room it works quicker. On the down side they give off a bit of ozone if that bothers you.
