I recently made a big purchase namely a box of PAM 26 #6 and the retailer was so appreciative of my business he gave me a couple sticks as a gift and I know they must be great sticks but I dont recognize the sticks, I thought you guys would give me some insight ( the retailer didnt tell me what they were because he had a room full of customers and slipped them to me in a bag and told me not to look until I got home). I have a picture of them but I dont have a server to post them to so I will just try to define them. The first one is a CUABA EDICION LIMITADA it is 7 5/8ths in length and must be at least a 62 ring the second one is a San Cristobal De La Habana it is 7 by about 50 to 52 ring both are ISOM but I want to know the exact series they are. Also I need to know how long should I age them before smoking. If someone has a server I can post the pic on that would be neat. TIA :D :D :D

Cuaba Serie A Salamones (the ring is actually 57)
San Cristobal de la Habana El Morro

Chances are they are REAL

LOL, I was in the middle of posting and didn't need the picture :p

I MAY be wrong on the Cuaba but I don't think so. If I am, I'm sure someone who is smarter than me will set me straight :0 :p :D :sign:

Oh, and those are NICE sticks  The SC goes for around $10.00 and some change and I think the Cuaba is around a $30.00 ceegar ;)

The Cuaba "looks" like a Cuaba salomones, but I haven't seen the Edicion Limitada bands used for a Cuaba AND the foot is cut too short... ???

I have the feeling it's not the real deal BigMac.

The real deal:

And if I am right about the Cuaba, I'd have to question the authenticity of the SC too.... ???

Best bet, smoke 'em !

:( Kirk's right about the foot of the Cuaba.

I dunno though, the El Morro picture is a little fuzzy but it looks legit to me.

SC's have a distinct "peppery" taste to the wrapper. If you're used to SC's you'd know in a minute if it is real or not once you light it up. Tell ya what send it TO ME, the resident CP SC expert :p

Actually bottom line to me is who cares they were gifts so smoke 'em and enjoy 'em ;)

That may indeed be the first counterfeit Cuaba I have ever seen. (Cuaba is one of my favorites and I have quite a few different ones in my humidor.) The shape just does not seem right. The foot is too rounded, and the body is too smooth. Cuabas seem to be thickest in the center.

The proper shape is a very hard shape to roll, so I am sure it would be a hard one to properly duplicate.

But as others have said - since you were gifted these ... smoke 'em and if you enjoy them you are ahead of the game.

...they could be the rare Cristopher Wolters 1996 Cuaba Especialidad Salomones II ! :p

There are no Cuaba EL's.
I am starting to believe these are fakes.I think you are absolutely right there isnt even a hint of a cuaba EL. This makes me very sad that this guy would pawn off on me a counterfeit cigar, I didnt purchase it but I did pay 20 bucks for a cohiba pyrimide EL about a month ago from this same guy. I really thought he was above reproach but he is obviously not. The thing that really clenched it to me is after a lot of online research I noticed that the EL band on all of them dont have a date. The EL bands on the authentics have the 2001 and 2003 in the middle below the text, the bands on mine dont have a date at all.

Some good information to help you begin to identifying fakes:

Cigar Nexus Counterfeit Identification Info

Cigar Aficionado Counterfeit Gallery
I have both of those links and have done extensive reading but these have really caught me offgaurd because of who I got them from. I guess my newbieness has shown through, but the way I look at it is I live and learn. :D :D :D
I would like to say it is really nice to have a place where I can go and find some really good and trustworthy information, and I thank you all.

The band does not make a cigar legit. If you don't know your source (and that doesn't mean an internet vendor you recently found online) or have a palate that knows the taste of Cuban tobacco from years and years of smoking it you're spitting in the wind. :)

Bands don't make the cigar. Down in Cozumel, I saw quite a few Cohiba Siglo VIs with EL bands. What was even more amusing was the guy trying to convince me of their legitimacy. :D
