Wife bought me a new desktop humi for x-mas. Around 7 am I wiped the new humi down with some distilled water and filled the pack. About 12 hours later I went to re wipe the humi and I saw very small dots on the inside bottom. I took it to my local shop and they said its not mold, it won't wipe off. But when I did try to wipe it, it left smear marks. Anybody ever hear or experience something like this or know what it may be.

Can mold grow in 12 hours

I'm not sure it can grow and show that quickly. I think for it to develop into the white/green fuzz would take more than 12hrs to grow. Pictures would help a great deal though. Btw, what colors are the dots, smears, etc... Could be a number of things.
