Looks like I'm hitting two more conferences from June 11-13. I'll probably be flying in on the 10th and then flying out on the 14th.

If any of you guys would be interested in meeting for dinner/drinks/smokes, please post up in this thread. It's been too many years since I've visited Iwan Ries and the other wonderful shops in old Chi-town.

I would have seriously thought about making the 5 hour drive up north, but alas I am away for some Army training 7-27 June.

Enjoy your time in the windy city Wilkey :)

Drop by Belicoso and have a smoke with alexgtp.

Wow. What a bummer. We'll have that smoke someday.

I'll be sure to check in with Alex.

I don't know yet. The cheapest damned place I can find for sure. I completely emptied out my grad student reimbursement allocation on my recent trip to Vancouver, BC. so this trip is pretty much on my dime.

If you have to keep an eye on the purse strings stay out of the downtown area. There's a TIF area that includes downtown to O'hare airport and Midway airport. Keep us updated, and if you know someone that lives in Chicago, go for ot.

Couple of things to take into account. Where is/are your conferences and will you have a car. That will dictate how far you can stay from your conference location. Like sack says, if you're looking to save $$ don't stay downtown or near the loop. Remember that the public transportation in Chitown is very convenient so you can get pretty much anywhere especially downtown using CTA. Its been probably 6 years since I've been back to Chitown, maybe this'll be a good excuse to go back for a visit. G1

What's "TIF?" I'm guessing it has something to do with $$$.

T. I. F. = Tax Increment Financing. All businesses in the zone have higher taxes to pay for construction and development in the zone. In downtown Chicago, the TIF affects everything a tourist or visitor touches, restaurants, airfares, taxis, hotels, and probably other things that the regular Joe knows nothing about. FYI.
