Butane refill fluid

Stupid first post, but going to ask anyways.

My wife purchased a Xikar Element lighter for my birthday last year. The lighter is great, but goes through fluid rather quickly. I picked up a butane refill bottle at Wal-Mart, it is lacking and seems to clog up the lighter from time to time. I read the documentation on Xikar’s website, and they simply recommend "triple refined premium fuel”. I tried a local B&M, they only carried the same cheap crap from Wal-Mart.

Can anyone recommend a brand?

X icar has their own brand. Use it. The folks who sold you your lighter probably sell it.

Doc.

Don't use Zippo. I haven't had much luck. For the price, Vector seems to do the job.

x4 on the Vector burane. It is the only fuel I use except for Duhill fuel in my Dunhill lighter (not because I want to, as the markup is ridiculous, but nothing seems to work as well). Zippo butane is crap, and I think Vector works better than the Xikar fuel IMHO. As mentioned earlier though...never use any butane that is less than 3x filtered as it will clog your lighter up. Good luck.

+1 on the Victor. The only time I run into problems is when I get lazy and don't purge before I refill.

I work 1 day a week in a B&M. I'm amazed at how many people bring their lighters in thinking its broken when all it needs is purged.
Use good butane and always purge your lighter before refilling.

Use a cheaper torch and the Wal-Mart Ronson butane will work wonderfully. Never had a problem with my $3 Ronson Jet-Lite torches and that fuel!

You know, I love the Ronson lighters. For less than $3 I don't have to worry about losing them, or if they stop working. Every "decent" lighter I have purchased has stopped working on me, and I use 4x or 5x refined fuel. I rarely leave home without a Ronson withing arm's reach! :D

Completely agree on the Vector Quintuplus butane. It's the cleanest fuel I've been able to readily find and is the lowest cost per volume.

William Sonoma usually carries it if you have one close.

I hope this helps

It's because of the refining process. There are other brands out there that have almost no impurities like Xikar as well, but Wal Mart Ronson is not one of them lol.

This is the best advice you can get. Good butane is blended to burn consistently. If you do not empty the lighter before filling you end up with empty air pockets that interrupt the flow. I went through 3 lighters with Xicar fluid before I read about purging. The Xicar fluid worked flawlessly once doing so and since then all 3 lighters worked fine after that.
