I was going to post a new Cigar Girl® today but I guess I'll wait until tomorrow.

But don't go saying I should go away because I don't like it. That's just absurd. I'm not asking any of you to stop coming here.
Michael,

I don't see anyone saying "go away", that's absurd.

I hear what you are saying but the consensus, from what I'm reading, is to disable the avatars and thereby resolve the problem.

I did not vote in your poll because, as with many polls, the wording is loaded in the sense of seeking validation for a particular viewpoint. This one particularly so (as MC noted).

If I'm surfing in public, I could not possibly care less what passers by think I'm looking at. Why should I? ??? If I'm surfing where surfing is sort of allowed and passers by are regulars (e.g. work) then I probably will have to explain once and that would cover it forever. When I surf at home in the basement where my office is, sometimes my 5-yo daughter comes down to visit. I've had to explain to her once that "the lady riding the cigar" is the guardian fairy of my cigar website and I've not been questioned since. As I said, sigs are disabled, I don't click "NSFW" threads while she's down here, and avatar pics are small enough (and I'm familiar with who has the racy sigs) that I can breeze right by and avoid drawing her attention. More likely, I minimize the browser and talk with her to find out what's on her mind.

In my opinion, this is not a "G" rated site nor should it be. It's for cigar smokers, most of whom are grown up and almost all of whom are men. It is what it is because it suits the general sensibilities of that demographic. We sometimes cuss, we sometimes like to see images of the female form, and we want a place where we can be comfortable exercising some manliness without necessarily stepping into the crass or obscene.

As MC has pointed out, there are plentiful controls for managing the appearance of this site. Here are my settings from the control panel.

I'm not in favor of global restrictions where personal discretion, judgment, and control would and should do the job.

Well to those of you that say I choose to come to the site, and I should not try to change it. I've been here alot longer than most all of you...I was just remembering the glory days I guess. Keep defending your rights to put what ever you want. That's fine. But don't go saying I should go away because I don't like it. That's just absurd. I'm not asking any of you to stop coming here.
A note to all members, new and old. For change to happen, there need not be a single person agitating for it based on an agenda or intent. I've long held that communities are organic entities unto themselves and will naturally evolve (read "change") in order to stay vibrant and relevant. Anyone who has been here any length of time will be able to recall their own personal glory days and these remembrances involve not just board mechanics but the people that affected us in those formative times. This formation is what imprints the impression of the "good ol' days." There is no such thing as the forum's glory days. Only those of the people who populate the forum.

But I have to say, your last three sentences portray exactly what we tell "newcomers" to do should they strongly disagree with some fundamental aspect of the board. But you say that because you've been here "alot longer than most all of you" means this guidance somehow does not apply to you? Hogwash. Those three sentences are right and just precisely because it does apply to ALL members. It embodies the essence of individual judgment and the choices we all have to make because of that.

I'm having a little problem understanding your "dramatic" wording of the poll choices. How is this forum public? It is not exactly a billboard along the highway, more like an "R" rated movie on HBO.

Furthermore, I think you should consider a polling choice something like:

"Board image viewing choices are available to all members and they should be responsible for deciding what they'd like turned on or off."

"The ability to accept responsibility is the measure of the man." --Roy L. Smith

Don't you ever get sick of being right all the time.....

Posting NSFW posts is one thing. I can choose not to open one if I am "at risk." Unfortunately, the sigs and avatars being disabled is "all or none." There are often non-risque pictures or links or quotes that I do enjoy seeing in them. When I am on the computer I am out in the open and available to my 10 yr old daughter for any needs or questions she may have. I see no reason that I should lock myself behind closed doors to view a cigar board. It seems that the sigs and avatars have evolved over the past couple of years, when I first got here, there were very few thongs and boobs bouncing around. I guess I viewed CP as a bit different or "upscale" in that regard initially.

Well to those of you that say I choose to come to the site, and I should not try to change it. I've been here alot longer than most all of you. Back in the "DAY", most of us didn't put these in public display. I said "MOST" not all. I was just remembering the glory days I guess. Keep defending your rights to put what ever you want. That's fine. But don't go saying I should go away because I don't like it. That's just absurd. I'm not asking any of you to stop coming here. It's just a post and poll to see where the majority lies. Nothing more. So relax my pornography fiends  KIDDING! Don't get all bunched up ya Ratt Mousey wanna be's!

My mom had a hard time accepting change as well ;)

It's kind of selfish to deny some folks access to the nearly naked beauties that some people have, too. Unless it's offensive to everyone, I don't think we should ban it. Use the modern tools available to you to cater the sight to your specific needs.

If you're using Firefox for your browser, you can right click and choose "block image", if I remember correctly. This way you can selectively decide what images to see. I'm sure there are some ways where you can rewrite the requests to show random pictures of kittens or something, too. :D

I think you are on to something here.....I have Adblock installed in Firefox. I can right click on the image and choose to Adblock the URL and and it will permanently block it.......this is good.

I don't think you should compare your Mother to me.... she deserves alot more respect than that!

Is it an add on? I can't find it in FF add on's ???

Brian

Found it, spelled it wrong...thanks for the tip.

Yeah... but you use a thread dedicated to this. I have a choice not to enter it. A completely different thing. This I agree with whole heartedly. Please don't deny those Brothers in need.... post away!

It is an add on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
This is an amazing add on. I just blocked one avatar, great stuff...thanks!

Brian

I turn avatar and sig image block when at home and on when at work. Don't want the kids and mom to think Dad is a pervert. Coworkers already know.
