BUNNAHABHAIN 1997 Heavily Peated Limited to 1139 bottles, Signatory bottling. 11ys old 92 proof
This isn't really a review. It's more of a oh wow post.
My bottle, 491 of 1139, arrived yesterday. Since the sun was well over the yardarm, I grabbed one of my fancy Ravencroft scotch glasses and poured a healthy two fingers worth. It's almost clear in the bottle; only a sight yellowish tint. Upon nosing, I was first made aware of ETOH and then the subtle perfume of fresh cut apples and pears and a little peat smoke. I expected more peat as it's advertised as heavily peated. It's no Laphroaig, and unlike any Islay I've sampled. When tasted, I got the apples and pears and a blast of honey that surprised me. There was just the hint of smoke in the background. This dram is very sweet tasting to my palate. It was not at all what I was anticipating. It was a hell of a pleasant surprise. Needless to say, I poured another. I'm going to enjoy this bottle. My only regret is, it's not available in the US and there's only 1139 bottles.
