Buena Vista Cigar Review
Size: Robusto - 5 3/8 x 54
Blend: Limitada 2008 - Ecuador
MSRP: $11.50
The Buena Vista cigar company is a relatively new boutique cigar, which debuted in 2011. I've had this cigar in my humidor for a little while now, and the band kept catching my attention. Having never heard of the company before, I wasn't too tempted to smoke it right away. I recently saw a review here, which had me thinking, it's time to smoke the BV!

After reading about how chocolatey and sweet this cigar tasted, I couldn't wait to fire mine up! Personally, finding a cigar that exudes natural sweetness and cocoa is relatively rare. I immediately went to the cabinet, searched around for the cigar and found it in my box of mixed cigars. After sniffing the foot of the cigar, I could certainly sense some hints of chocolate. Actually, it was rather prominent.
Decided to enjoy this cigar on the back patio, where it was in the mid 80's, sunny and very breezy. Couldn't ask for a nicer Souther California afternoon!
After inspecting the cigar, it's clear this company takes pride in their products, all the way from packaging down to rolling of the tobacco. I used my Palio cutter to snip off the head. First pre-light puff presented a very slight pepper flavor along with hints of sweet tobacco. The draw was not plugged, but tighter than what I'm used to. I proceeded to snip off just a bit more, which helped to open up the draw. Just slightly tighter than most cigars I smoke, but certainly not a show stopper.
By the looks of the picture below, it appears the cigar was rolled just a tad too tight near the head. This didn't affect the enjoyment at all, as after a few puffs I didn't much notice the slightly tighter than normal draw.
I'm a big fan of Victory Brewing Company, so what better to accompany this cigar than with a Victory Summer Love.
After cutting the cigar, taking a few pre-light puffs, it was time to put flame to foot! The cigar lit up nice and easy with my Blazer Little Buddy lighter. The first few puffs were mild tobacco with some sweetness, and a hint of woody flavor. Not tasting much chocolate...yet... As I continued to take a few more puffs, I did not detect any pepper-like hints, even though the pre-light draw presented a peppery nuance. Nonetheless, this cigar is smoking great, initial flavors are mild, and I'm ready to enjoy the rest of this stick!
After the first third, I began to get subtle hints of sweetness, cocoa-like flavor. A few more puffs revealed what I've been waiting for...a chocolate lovers delight! Not only did the cigar present a good amount of cocoa flavor, even the air around me had a sweet confectionary-like aroma. I was quite amazed.
As I continued smoking the cigar, the flavor profile remained sweet with hints of nuts, wood and mild tobacco throughout.
This was certainly a very enjoyable and unique cigar. While the price tag is a bit more than I'd expect, it's definitely worth having a few in your humidor, for whenever you feel like having a good dessert-type cigar. While boutique cigar companies seem to be popping up left and right, this is certainly one to try.
I wish I knew who it was that bombed me with this stick -- whoever you are, thank you!
