Hey guys, I just brought home my new (and first) humidor a few days ago.

Calibrated the hygrometer for 30 hours in and popped it into the humidor 24 hours ago.

I wasnt gonna start seasoning till the 27th considering heartfelt isnt shipping anything till the 30th.

I just checked the hygro and its 73 degrees at 65% RH! I live in Tampa, so that probably helps with the whole humidity thing :-)

Do I even need to bother seasoning then?

I got one of those humi sticks that come in boxes of montecristos from a friend just to hold me over till my beads come, its still sealed and says it will humidify 65 cigars. My cigar is only a 50-75 capacity.

Should I just charge this thing and pop it in? I feel like I should wipe the wood or at least put a sponge in there for a few days before I put the humi stick in and start putting sticks in my humidor.... but if its at 65%, right where I want it, would putting a sponge in there or wiping the wood get me way over 70%?

Thanks guys!

A serious question : Based on what you have already researched in the existing threads on CigarPass, what do you think you should do?

If the RH is 65% I dont see a reason to season the humi, but its always help in the long term.

Oh,get a bigger humi ASAP.

Jepe, LOL I think I'll be alright for now, cant really afford to buy too many smokes anyways :-)

And the rest of you ball breakers, I really dont know, which is why I asked

They say to season it to get to 65 or 70, but Im already there....

But.... if the wood doesnt have enough humidity...

well you know what, nevermind,

Im sick of these smart ass posts from you guys...

grateful1 should be here too to chime in shortly on how stupid this post is too

Im done posting, just gonna read and lurk from now on

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone ??? (excluding nervjiggy and bluue13, you guys have been a HUGE help for me, and I thank you for that!)

Bye

First, do not wet the wood. Doing so can warp it, and not like on StarTrek.

Don't be so thinned hide on ball busting. What they are telling you is this subject is covered zillions of times in search, so you need to make search your friend.

Hang loose, be cool and make your contributions, some folks bust em cause they want to test you. We all got it, including me, so don't hide, or they win.

Be looking for you.

Thanks for coming, get home safe.

I'll cheat and give you the answer ... YES

The idea if to deeply saturate it and back off. As it is, the wood may be holding RH DOWN to 65% by absorbing moisture and if you put cigars in it will begin absorbing moisture from them, too.

Does his post fulfill this one? Just get over yourself Cigar guy. You're overthinking it, and you answered your own question.

I prefer to keep the cello on as a general rule, to help keep the wrappers from getting banged up. Sometimes that isn't the best choice (for example when dealing with a cedar wrapped cigar where mold is more likely to develop under the cedar wrap). Just one FYG's opinion, now me and some other FYG's are gonna watch football and get crazy as balls roflbbqcopterlol

Do I even need to bother seasoning then? NO

I got one of those humi sticks that come in boxes of montecristos from a friend just to hold me over till my beads come, its still sealed and says it will humidify 65 cigars. It will over humidify your cigars, leaving them bitter tasting if you smoke them.

Thanks guys!

Your cigars probably are too humid from being stored from the vendor, drop them in the humi and they will adjust themselves until your beads come in. Your city's natural humidity will buffer the cigars from any drying out you may be worried about.

The Humidor forum has nearly 2700 topics over 68 pages going back ten years that have helped answer questions about seasoning new humidor, beads, ebay humidors, etc. . Take the time to read a bit, and learn to use the existing resources.

"Or they win"? Nonsense.

I thought that all the cigars in 2010+ don't require humidity anymore...? ???

Just those much sought after Gurkhas in the glass tubes

In as much as I appreciate a good PM, feel free to say it here.

You said you 'feel' you should wipe it down...then you go on to question the wood not having enough humidity.

Do you not see the big read flags? Do you not trust the instructions to be correct?

My question still stands, what does it say on the instructions?

Your enthusiasm is great and I'm sure you'll enjoy this forum and cigars for a long time to come.
