I just picked up a couple Boveda packets for the coolidor, and on the back of the packet it says will last approximately 3 months...how does one know when it is time to replace it, the humidity not staying consistent? or does the level of the liquid in the packet begin to dissipate letting you know it is getting time to think about replacement?? by the way I am a new member and I am very proud to be a member of this awesome informative board. :)

Nate,

A Google search showed the Boveda paks as being manufactured by Humidipak.
Here's a link to what you may be looking for:

Humidipak

There's a link to FAQ on this page, too. The Boveda is basically the same product used in the Fuente bags.

Hope this helps, and welcome from a fellow newbie.

EDIT: I just noticed that you're going to use these for a cooler. You'll need more than a couple of these. If it's for a genuine cooler, you'll need to use beads or another larger humidification system.

I don't recommend these for a humidor or a cooler. I currently have two in my "tupperdor" and it works great! I think part of the reason is that tupperware is virtually air tight, so the only time you really lost humidity is when you open it up or add new cigars to it. The last me 4-5 months, but I also don't have a big cigar collection or a big tupperware that I am storing them in. I gave one to my old man to put in his small humidor, and (since they "breathe" and are not completely air tight) it only lasted about 2 months. The way you can tell if they are spent is that they get brittle as they dry out. Depending how big your coolerdor is, it may work, however, even with my small tupperware, I am planning on buying some beads as soon as these start to dry out. Good luck with it.

thanks for the insight guys...it is very much appreciated.. i currently am using a 24 quart cooler, with a madelaines crystal gel humidifier, and a boveda packet..i was surprised but it has been holding humidity at around 70...i def. want to get some beads here soon or another method, so I feel a little more comfortable with the humidity in my coolidor..do you think the above is sufficient for the size cooler that I am using??
