Bolivar Royal Corona - isom 2003
Appearance: Good to Excellent. A dry looking wrapper with no visible prominent veins.
Construction: Good. This cigar had no noticable soft spots or hard spots. A nearly perfectly made cigar. The only problem was a small "stick?" in the center of the filler.
Burn: Even. The burn started even, and ended even. Only needing to be torched-up once.
Problems: Only one, the wrapper at one point raised away from the coal, and thats when I had to torch fix it. Nothing major. *NOTE: it did not unravel.
Ash color: Dark grey.
Ash structure: Firm, little or no flaking at all. Very hard to knock off.
Draw: Good, but a little firm.
Aroma: Excellent. Pre-light, I swear it smelled like chocolate! Once fired up it had a nice rich aroma. Not even a hint of amonia.
Smoked to: NUB (used a tooth pick to pull every last puff possible)
Strength: Full (but on the lighter side of full)...
Taste: The taste of the cigar was very very good. I got a lightly spicy flavor, with a hint of coffee.
Overall Impression: A great island cigar for experienced smokers. Not for the isom newbie or mild cigar smoker. A cigar smokers treat for sure.
Recommend: Definitely.
Scale: Great Smoke.

That fills out the form portion now a few words from the smoker:
After dinner last night, I decided to pull out a Bolivar Royal Corona. I hadn't smoked a island cigar in a few days- so I thought this would be a good evening ender.
Pulled the cigar from my humidor, and examined the wrapper, which was smooth and dry. The pre light aroma smelled like chocolate to me. I pulled out the Xikar and clipped the end, the cut went successful (the sign of a good cigar to me), no cracking. It did reveal one small stick dead in the center of the filler of the cigar! I pulled it out and away we went. A few pre-light puff's and I knew I was going to enjoy this cigar, like I usually do! I whipped out the Colibri and roasted the tip. Once I got the coal nice and hot on the end, I blew out the first "puff", then took in a nice big draw. A good amount of smoke, and lots of flavor.
The smoke was cool and a little spicy. The after taste reminded me of dark cup of coffee. I continued to enjoy what turned out to be an amazing cigar. About 1/4 of the way down, the ash was still holding on- No visible signs of flaking or breaking away from its counter part. That ash was on for the long haul! A few taps on the end of the ash tray- and it STILL DIDN'T FALL OFF! I had to knock it off with the side of the ash tray myself. It was really on there.
The flavor of the cigar never changed, but the smoke got pretty hot towards the end and everything got stronger- but never got bitter. So with about an inch or so to go, I grabbed a toothpick and impaled the nub to continue smoking the cigar... I know I know- I'm a cheap bastard. I was just really enjoying this cigar I got it down to the point where my lips were burning when it touched- I figured for safety sakes I better put it down! :sign:
The cigar is not for the mild cigar smokers out there, or the isom newbie. But if you're used to smoking full bodied cigars- You'll really enjoy the Bolivar Royal Corona- I DID.
