I love summer, except for mosquitos and mild allergy. I don't have to find a quiet bar to enjoy a smoke. And a long cigar keeps the lil bloodsuckers away too
Okay, the main attraction for me last night was this Bolivar Robusto. First of all I have a question. Is this smoke supposed to be boxpressed (correct term? it wasn't round, but a rounded square)? When I've seen it in internet cigarshops, I could swear the pictures showed a regular parejo. I also checked out its Dominican relative, Bolivar Fuerte, but they had a different band and darker wrapper. Perhaps they've produced cigars with this form sometime? The band looked exactly like the ISOM band. Anyway, this was no problem. I had no doubt then, and perhaps someone can kill my doubt now
Assuming this was an ISOM Bolivar Royal Coronas (a robusto), here I go! This one looked good. The wrapper felt very smooth, plus I've always been a sucker for robustos. It lit up very well, but the starting ash had some black rings around it. Through the whole cigar the ash stayed a bit dark. From the start I only felt a strong peppery taste. After about 1/4 of the cigar, it was more in the line of strong coffee and superdark chocolate. I guess in a cigar, dark coffee and dark chocolate can be hard to distinguish, so I'll just call it a mix of those two Oh and I guess I should mention the draw, which was great all the way. When it got too hot to hold, I let it go to sleep. Good smoke
After the Bolivar, I smoked a Partagas Super Partagas (petit corona). Okay, it felt like a toothpick after a robusto, but no problem. I've had many of these before, so no surprise here. I've always thought of these as reliable smokes. They burn even and taste great. From what I've read, the different Partagas smokes differ a lot from each other, so I'm guessing the one I smoked was from the milder end of their range. With the Partagas as well as the Bolivar, I had some Maker's Mark bourbon.
