Blue Angels tuning up right outside my window

It's darn hard to concentrate here on the 4th floor with the Blue Angels "churnin' and burnin" right outside the window...!! Our office is directly across the street from the Hillsboro OR air port runway, where the Blue Angles will be performing this weekend in an air show. Local roads got closed today from noon to three or so, so the men could practice. And, practice they are. Just amazing....!! They are flying very fast, very close to our building and it's an awesome sight. It was a beautiful sight to see all six of them, on the runway this AM when they first arrived, taxiing towards the hanger.

Call me corny, but seeing those six beautiful blue planes and the skill of the guys that fly them makes me feel very proud to be an American.

Very cool! While in Sturgis this week, a B2 bomber flew right over main street at about 500 feet, not a sound that I'd ever get used to hearing. The whole freakin' block shook! Awesome.

Also, flying the airshow circuits this year is the F22 and a P51D and F15E as part of the "Freedom Flight". You may get lucky and see them tomorrow, so keep your eyes open.

If I remember correctly from my Portland days, it should be beautiful right up to show day, when it will begin to rain like hell.

You commute from Vancouver to Hillsboro? Are you nuts?

I live near Seattle and a good friend of mine is part of the Oberto family. Every year for Seafair, he invites me to the Oberto family party which is hosted at a house that sits right on the water where the hydros race. The flight pattern for the Blue Angels puts them right on top of the party at what seems to be 1000 ft. above us. It is a pretty incredible experience that could only be topped by taking a ride with them.

....some would think so, but given the superior schools, lower property taxes, and fantastic living conditions, I think I'm ahead to live in Vancouver. There are back roads and the St. Johns Bridge for those days when I-5 is buggered up..... :cool:

An A-10 and a couple of other military aircraft just showed up and are taxiing on the runway. What a view we have from here..... :cool:
 
When I was stationed at NAS Pensacola, I used to work in the same building as the Blue Angels, and I had an apartment right outside the base. It was AWESOME, I watched them practice 2-3 times per week.

And on the rare days I got to sleep in, I could still watch them from (and feel them shaking my apartment building) from my balcony.

There is nothing like the smell of JP-5 in the morning. :D
 
WE have them coming in two weeks to Atlantic City for a show right over the ocean parallel with the boardwalk. Its a sick show to see plus I'm a lifeguard so I get paid for watching!

I saw them last year at Sefair, and a few year ago at the air show on Whidbey Island... Truely amazing watching them!!!
 
I was living in Dayton, OH (Hometown of the bros that started it all, THE Wright Brothers) and went to the Dayton 2003 Air Show, 100 Years of Powered Flight. This was the largest International Air Shows of the year and me living in Dayton at the time was rather fortunate. There I had the privledge of seeing not only the Blue Angels perform but also the Thunderbirds and from our neighbors to the North, the Snow Birds!

Prior to going to the Air Show I would watch all the teams running their flight dance outside the office window for an entire week. Damn fine displays! :thumbs:

I have been to many air shows but this was by far the largest I'd seen.

Wow! An F22! I worked for a brief time on projects related to the JSF so seeing this would have been cool to the max.

Haven't been to an airshow in years but now I'm itching to go. I'll have to see if they are coming into the DE/ME area.

Being stationed in NAS Fort Worth has its perks....

Lockheed it right across the runway. Therefore i got to go tour their little operation and get up close and personal with the JSF...Lockheed gives their employee of the month a ride in one of their test F-16s to we get to watch as these guys go nuts on the controls....its pretty loud but some of the things that jet can pull is amazing...
 
One of the best thing about growing up in Las Vegas (and less than 15 minutes from Nellis). Was bieng able to watch the thunderbirds practice on the way home from school. We used to get aot of jet action durning the weeks as well...and during red flag...well...
 
What's sick is that the F-22 is only limited by the pilot. If the pilots could learn to push their bodies further, you would see some things that you would never believed was possible in a man-made machine.
 
To be fair, it isn't just a question of pilots "learning" to push their bodies farther. After you've implemented measures like improved seat geometry, better g-suit design, appropriate physical conditioning, and g straining maneuvers, we're left with the very stubborn physiological limits of the human body. If you want to fully exploit high performance flight technology, I think the necessary next step is to take pilots out of the cockpit physically, once we've sufficiently developed immersive remote piloting systems.
