So a while back, you may remember Tom hosted his "1000 post contest" , which had a prize of 5 smokes and the stipulation that the winner would do a blind review of one of those five smokes.
As promised, Tom sent out 4 great smokes (properly banded), and one unbanded cigar along with this note:
The cigar was what I would guess to be a petit corona (Like an idiot I forgot to measure it!) Light brown wrapper with very small veins, and nice construction. The filler looked to be a bit tightly packed, particularly at the cap end (after clipping the cap), but the draw was nice.
Prelight flavor was very mild, a bit "grassy" and actually had a sort of Mint flavor to it (real mint, not candy mint).
Initial light produced a very thin smoke, and a very white ash. While the smoke was thin, it was still flavorful.
First flavors were very herb-like, and a bit woody. This cigar is very mild, and I would guess it definitely has some age on it.
As I progressed to about the halfway point, the herb profile was the strongest, but there was a clear tea-like flavor as well. (If I had been smoking this with my eyes closed I would have bet on it being a Candela for sure). From this point on, the primary flavor was almost "Menthol" - I know that sounds odd, but it's true. The cigar picked up a tiny bit of a peppery flair toward the end, but never picked up strength. It remained very mild througout.
All in all, I really liked this cigar. Very mellow and smooth, tasty but very mild. I highly doubt it was a Cuban, but of course I could be wrong.
I am nowhere near experienced enough to hazard a guess as to what brand of cigar this was or what tobaccos it contained, but I do know it isn't anything I've smoked before.
Thanks again Tom! I really enjoyed this one!
