Blanket chest conversion?

I am thinking of taking a blanket chest that is not being used and lining it with spanish cedar to use as long term storage. I think if I run a bead of silicon in the corners before the cedar goes in, the only worry I will have is making sure the lid is air tight. Any suggestions would be appreciated from anyone who has maybe tried this before.

Warning, silicone will leave a horrible smell in your chest. Leave it open while it dries, and make sure you put a fan in it or something for a couple days to make sure the smell is taken care of. Immediately prior to putting the cedar sheets in, lightly sand soth sides with fine grit to bring out the cedar aroma, and to remove any raised grain to protect any nude cigars.
Do not use silicone on the cedar to hold it in place, you wont get the smell out of the cedar. Don't use a hot glue gun either. I hope that helps.

You can try using door insulation strips on the rim of the lid. There is usually low and high compression ones, use the high compression one.( the harder one of the two)
