Big Smoke - anyone go?

i was there it was way to many people for the venue. Luckily i had a few good guys at the cao stand that made it worth while :)

:whistling: :whistling: :whistling: :D

anyone go to the Big Smoke in NYC?

Comments?

What did you think of it Ben?? :) You seemed to be almost as busy as I was...too bad we didn't have time to burn one together my friend.
I'll give you a call next time I'm 'in town'!!

I've never been interested in these. It costs a lot of money to get a bunch of free cigars that I will probably never smoke.

I'd rather meet Tom, Charlie, Tommy and others at Schlessingers. ;)

I was swamped but it was too damn crowded. There seemed to be absolutely no sense of order. It was mor elike a free for all than an organzized event. I definitely got some good cigars which I gave awayo to my family but overall I didn't think it was worth the dollar they were asking.

As for burning one with you... anytime. Please be sure give me a heads-up next time you stop my way; hopefully it'll be before Xmas so we can have a celebratory stick and a cocktail or two..

I found out how much i like hennesy XO when it is free.
For the cost of admission, you can buy quite a bit of Hennessy (that's HennesSy, with two "s" ;) ). Remy Martin XO is better anyway, were they giving that away?

Hey slider, do you know about the Schlessinger Herf in February of next year? I think it's only about an hour from you.

heard about it - I'd love to attend :D

I can bring some new stuff with me too :)

date?
time?
address?

I'm pretty sure it's scheduled for February 17, 2007. HERE's a link to their website which doesn't seem to be working too well at the moment but at least the address is there.

I don't know what time they plan on starting, it mostly depends if we can talk them into opening early for us.

As this thing gets going, there will be a thread about it under the "Herfs" section.

I definitely prefer the Remy Martin XO over the Hennessy XO. They tend to run about the same price. I was able to find a bottle of the Remy Martin XO for $104.00. I've never looked real hard for the Hennessy. :D

The high end Hennessy (Ellipse) costs a heck of a lot more than the Remy Martin Louis XIII. I think the Ellipse lists for $4,000.00 but you can find it for a little over $2,000.00 :0 The Louis XIII lists for $1,600.00 or so but I've seen it as low as $550.00 on eBay.

While I've never had the Ellipse, my guess is the Louis XIII is as good if not better. ;)

I think AVB has mentioned previously that there are LOTS of other lesser-known Cognacs out there for significantly less money that the "big name" ones like Remy Martin & Hennessy that are just as good. I haven't sampled any so I don't know from first hand experience.

AVB also pointed out that you can get XO level Armagnacs for about half the price of Cognacs. I followed his advice and bought a nice bottle of Cerbois 1982 Armagnac which only cost me about $60.00. It's very smooth like an XO Cognac but it's not as complex. For the money, it's probably a better deal.
