Maybe, maybe not. From Shoppers Vineyard.

Beer drinkers and single malt drinkers will never have more in common than this e-mail. This week’s special involves an already great ale and the “Distiller of the Year,” working collaboratively to create a one-of-a-kind cask ale.

Harviestoun Old Engine Oil Ale is highly rated in the 93rd Percentile on RateBeer.com, and received an A- (Excellent) from BeerAdvocate.com. Highland Park Distillery was named “Distiller of the Year” At the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2007. What do you get when you combine the two? Harviestoun Ola Dubh!

Ola Dubh (‘Black Oil’) is created when Old Engine Oil Ale is matured in Highland Park single malt barrels. There are three different ales; 12 year, 16 year, and
30 year, corresponding with the Highland Park barrel it was matured in (not how long the beer was matured). This is the first ever ale to be aged in malt whiskey casks from a named distillery and, with traceable casks and numbered bottles, the first with a notable origin.

If you were to buy the three individually from another store, it would be over $36.00!! For the next week, I am offering one (1) bottle each of the 12, 16, and 30 year for only $24.99!! That’s over a 30% discount!!!! Take advantage of this deal and see what everyone is talking about on the whiskey forums!

More info and ordering here.

*Sigh* :(
I already know they won't ship this to PA. If anyone is planning on purchasing...let me know...

But what about J.W. Lees Harvest Ale matured in Lagavulin casks? They've been doing this for several years. Sounds like the Harviestoun folks need to take their heads out of the suds for a bit! Well, whether it's really the first or not, it still sounds mighty tasty (and mighty expensive - $25 for 3 330 mL bottles, plus $19 shipping!).

Thanks for the heads up, though, Ray.

According to their website, they do ship to PA. I assume from your post you've tried to order from them in the past? Maybe things have changed (or maybe their website is just wrong).

I've bought from them before and had it delivered without any problem.

I might have to place an order, thanks Ray! I really enjoyed the bottle of the Engine Oil Special Reserve I had ("aged in Malt Whiskey Casks" but not identified by distillery or year). It'll be interesting to see how much the different casks affect the taste of the beer.

I heard this stuff is REALLY damn good. That sampler is a smoking deal, my guy emailed me with this pricing...

12 year Harviestoun Ola Dubh $9.99 per bottle plus Tax and CRV

16 year Harviestoun Ola Dubh $10.99 per Bottle plus Tax and CRV

30 year Harviestoun Ola Dubh $17.99 per Bottle plus Tax and CRV

I would love to try this but that is a lot of money for 3 bottles of beer. Plus I just made an order on their site and included a bottle of Weyerbacher Heresy Imperial Stout.

The Special Reserve is pretty tasty at about half the price!
