Beginner, which Cuban would you suggest?

I have never tried a Cuban and would like to not only try a few, but add some to the collection I have just started. I have found a few sources that will sell them by the stick, or allow you to create a sample. With that, which lines would you suggest for a beginner? Something mild to medium, perhaps a bit sweet.

I have been reading a bit about the Romeo y Julieta's, but even that line offers quite a bit of a selection. I'll be honest, I have no idea where to start.

Check out the Kingantz review thread that's pinned in the reviews section. More often than not he reviews a lot of cubans and that'll give you an idea of what to look for. I myself like the more full bodied smokes so I couldn't really give you brand names, but Greg's a great resource!

Thanks, will do.

You could always go for the classics. Monte no.2, Siglo VI, Bolivar Belicoso Finos ... etc.. It really depends on what your taste is. Vegas Robaina Unicos, Diplomaticos no 2, Partagas Lusitania are all non regional, non limited, hands down basic great ISOM's.. However the list could go on forever :p

Sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum, should have gone into the main cigar forum.

I will tell you now that I have had a couple of beverages, so if what I percieve as trollishness is unfounded, please let me know.

The ultimate classic a Monte Cristo #2! Other favs are Monte Edmundo, Partagas serie D #4 and Bolivar belicoso fino.
Good luck

Any of them will do. You have no benchmark to base off of and you haven't listed any general taste preferences for us to work from. Cohiba and Montecristo marcas seem to hypnotize newcomers most with their fame and acclaim, so you might start with those if you have access to them.

I've been a fan of the RASS lately. Not a big smoke, but sure is tasty.
No offense, but I tend to doubt one who is completely new to Habanos would be familiar with the acronym for Ramon Allones Specially Selected cigars. For the original poster, the RASS is a Robusto format.

Partagas Serie D #4... That was the first Cuban I had and I really enjoyed it...

None of these are really my type but you can chose for yourself.

Left to right: Sancho Panza, Ramon Allones, Raphael Gonzalez, Monte, and Jose L. Piedra

Cubans

You cant go wrong with RyJ(Romeo y Julieta) NO.1-3
My first Cuban cigar was RyJ NO.2 and I think that is why its one of my favorites until this days.

I suggest a Montecristo No. 2 if it's your first. Very smooth, great tasting cigar that will leave you wanting to expand the ISOM cigar horizon even more. Check out RASS (Ramone Allones Specially Selected). Can't go wrong with either of those two. Both are reasonably priced too.

Trini Reyes or Boli PC

Both small cigars with very different but good flavor profiles.

The classics: Montecristo Number 2, Partagas Number 2, Cohiba Siglo VI. That'll give you a flavor for the larger ones.

Then try the robustos: Partagas Serie. D No. 4 and Cohiba Robusto and then maybe a RyJ Short churchill and an Upmann Mag. 50.

Then I'd try a really good lancero-type cigar, probably a Trinidad Fundadore. Some places have a "sampler" shall be un-named of course, not a bad way to go. You can PM me if necessary.

Hey FF 227, while I'm new to CP I have had the pleasure of smoking a quite a few CC the last couple of years. If your looking at the RyJ line-up, the #2 is a very nice smoke, but allow me to suggest the RyJ Short Churchill. Robusto format, a very smooth & creamy smoke w/lots of billowing smoke. For your first time smoking a Cuban it has some mellow tastes like cookie dough, floral & nuts off and on through-out the cigar. Never harsh, but I have had a few that do have a slight kick to them, just beautiful cigar. Hope this helps.

You have my mouth watering. I just got in a 3 pack of these.

Oh, I love me some RyJ Short Churchills!

But I'm surprised no one mentioned the HdM Epicure #2 . . . I'd consider that the perfect "first Habanos."
