Beetles and Freezing questions

Hi guys, I just posted an intro on the lobby.

I have been searching. However, I could not come up with the answers I was looking for.

Here we go:

Since cigar manufactures and cigar distributors freeze their cigars before shipment do I need to worry about beetles? Does the 70 Degree rule apply here?

Also, is there list as to which manufacturers freeze their tobacco? As far online vendors go I know JRCigars freeze their incoming shipments. Do you guys know of any other online vendors that practice freezing? I know CC’s do not practice the freezing technique and the only issue I have had with beetles was isolated to a Monte #4.

My Humidor temperature during the day gets up to 78. This has been the norm for the past month with no site of a beetle. Does this mean the cigars that I have in my Humi are safe? Should I be worried?

Regards,

GKR

Cannot help with freezing question, but in general you want to keep your humidor temperature around 70. The beetles can start their work at 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. IOW, keep your humidor temp around 65-70 and the humidity similarly. If you can move your humidor to a basement or down 1 floor it will help immensely in the summer. For all you'll ever want to know about beetles, check out this link:

There is so much information on eggs. However, I am still confused.

Why some people say 70 F. is the limit. The link you provided stated more like 80 F.

I wish some one could tell us if the NC's are pre frozen or not. I can handle freezing the CC's but the NC's are going to be pain.

Thanks,

GKR

regardless of freezing, 78 degrees is too much. Your humidor should ideally be in the 60-70 degree range. That's too cold for the little buggers to hatch then. Again, move the cigar to a lower floor if you can, if not, put it by an A/C Vent in the room (not directly over it).

I will try that. I took a servey around the house, the coolest place is in the guest bathroom. Also, there is AC vent in that little bathroom. No basements in San Diego. I just hate storing my cigars in the bathroom.

Thanks,

GKR

I can understand that, lol, but at least it's the guest bath, so people aren't frequenting it.

Best of luck!
