OK... I got the beads from Viper and they are awesome... They have been rock solid at 65% ever since I put them in. I just noticed today that it dipped to 64%... is this a sign that they may need more distilled water now?

Thanks guys... just wanted to verify this and protect my smokes :)

How long have you had them? If less than a month then you are probably just opening your humi too much (we all do it). They should be fine for quite some time, of course that varies per instance but id say not unless you see a big drop or a slow steady drop.

I wouldn't worry too much about a 1% drop, it's probably due to either opening the humi too often or the ambient temp is dropping with the cold fronts coming across the east.

BTW - I wouldn't add water directly to the beads as you may make them too wet. Put some distilled water in a small plactic cup (like the ketchup cups at fast food joints) and sink the cup in the beads. Works great as the beads take what they need.

OK... Who set up the cameras in my house? How did you know I open it a lot? Hmm :p

Anyway, thanks for the input guys!!!

LOL!!!

Try getting one of those small spray bottles that they sell in Wallymart or Target for sprusing up the beads. They sell them in the travel toiletries section.

I eyeball mine along with checking the hygrometer. I like to keep mine half milky and half clear(w/water).

tedski... sounds like you are trying to humidify something green, maybe in the herb family and not cigars

Adding a little amount of distilled water wont hurt anything. Ive had some beads in one particular coolerdor and it likes a little water about once a month...but its a pretty big coolerdor and gets opened at least once a day. I just sprinkle a little on top of them...maybe a teaspoon or two and stir them up a little. I usually do it when i notice a steady 2% drop in RH.

Anyone ever have a problem with mold forming on these beads?

Shouldnt be a problem if their cared for according to the directions...if your drowning them or not using distilled water then you might get some mold.

Well, I'm not storing any wacky tobacky :sign: ... and I'm using distilled water. I keep the beads in a small plastic bowl and add an ounce or so of water every few weeks (or whenever I see the humidity drop to 63%).
