Beads in a case designed for oasis

I have this new humi with a good size humidifyer (see picture IN THIS THREAD) and I want to put beads in there in exchange for oasis.

I am afraid the beads need some kind of inside container to keep them from falling through the air holes. What works best for that? Would a simple piece of thin cloth sewn into shape work or does it have to be super-permeable stuff like a pantyhose? I could trade one from my GF for a cigar, maybe

In any event, I think a simple pouch won't work, it has to be something that stretches out flat to make a large surface. What could that be?

Yep pantyhose work great. Maybe "help" your gf out a bit one night and she'd let you cut the leg out of a pair of hers :p

If she'd let me cut off a leg first and then put it on...oh boy, I love kinky stuff

Ah, I was just pondering the same thing too...Because, as I said in another thread, my humidifiers sponge (Oasis) system I guess is not doing well, but because the casing for it is mounted on the inside of the lid and looks good there, it would be neat to be able to keep it there, but try using a better humidifying medium in the place of the sponge.

in my desktop 40 Humi, I took the sponge out of the "Puck" and filled it with 65% beads. Holds RH perfectly. Much better than it did with the sponge. As I stated before, I recharge the beads about every 4 - 6 months and all is well.

I'm done.

Took out the old Singer and sewed a rectangle bag to fit into the oblong credo. Filled it with 65% beads and closed it. Done. Now I need to see how the humi reacts, maybe I have to dry them down a bit for a start.

Also, did the same that PB did, opened the puck of my smaller humi, took out the oasis and just filled in loose beads and closed it again. Bingo.

I love those beads!

Another great bag for the beads is an aquarium filter media bag. They are available and pretty cheap at places like Petsmart or any Tropical Fish store. They are a white bag with draw string closure. They are meant to put activated charcoal in for the filters on Aquariums.

Wouldn't the oasis be the best thing for a big humi? I'm a newbie so i'm learning just thought the oasis was the best way togo.

Hell No :D

People use beads in 129 QT marine coolers. From the pic in his thread that lil sucker might get away with 1/4 pound :p, but I would probably use 1/2 pound.

Oasis units are good because of their rapid recovery which is good for large furniture sized humidors however anything smaller and I would use beads. Two of the Oasis cartridges cost more than a pound of climmax which can be refilled again and again.

Beads might not recover as fast as Oasis units but they do something Oasis can't: absorb excess humidity. When its really humid outside your humidor you can also use a hair dryer to get the extra water out of them.

You just can't beat beads IMO.
