As you might have seen in my other thread, I just recently purchased a new humidor which is enroute at the moment. So I'd like to pick up a humidifying device of some sort, like the beads or "the puck". I realize they're both excellent products from reading a few of the reviews on here, but what I was looking for is a direct comparison of the too. Pros and Cons, hopefully by people who own both.

The puck utilizes beads as the device, so it is actually the same thing. The puck is just a container that holds the beads and is very convenient and easy to deal with, thats all. I reccomend it highly.

True, The Puck is an excellent product. In the same token, so are Viper's beads. For me, the beads are more flexible for my larger humi's and / or coolidor's IMO. I have the beads in all my humi's. Viper has a formula on his web site for working out the amount of beads you need, you just buy them by the 1/2 pound or pound. For smaller humi's, spin a coin, Mark and David are great BOTL, I support them both!

I'd like to add buy more than you need. The more beads you put in say a cooler the longer between refills/recharging.. I ended up using his formula and although its definitely adequate, I ended up placing another order with a friend for a extra pound. I doubled the amount of beads in my cooler and haven't had to touch it for three weeks so far. It's ranging between 65% - 68% I have a lot of boxes and bundles in that cooler
I bought 2 of his empty 4 oz tubes which make using and adding water a breeze. I put a tube at each end of the cooler. I should have done this years ago..

I have one heartfelt tube of 70% beads in my humi. It's not enough, but because of that it holds at 65% perfectly. :p The only problem I have is that the little bead bits fall out of the tube evry time I handle it. Because of this, i'm probably gonna try the puck next, it has that rubber/plastic thing to hold the bead bits in.

Or, I might just get a few pounds of loose viper beads and kitbash my own device.

Ohhh, somehow I missed that part, I didn't realize that it just held the beads, I thought it came with it's own humidifier of some sort. Good to know.

In addition to the "The Puck" holding the beads, it also has a sponge on top to keep them from pouring out when it's upside down, but mainly to wet the beads.

With "The Puck" you won't charge the beads directly, you'll wet the sponge, place it on top of the beads, close the lid and the beads will absorb the moisture from there.

It's an error proof way of charging your beads and takes all the think process out of it.

I just took the rectangular humidification device out of mine. Lined the lid with some screen material, same type you use for a window. Removed the green sponge and filled it full of beads. Works great.. Snapped apart and snapped back together..

I gotta do that sometime myself. Where did ya find the screen material?

Basically what I was planning on doing, the screen is a great idea. Probably get something that works at any hardware or hobby shop.

a piece of pantyhose works very well. I suggest new ones, the used ones may add an unwanted scent to your beads.

Only for the right woman or the right amount of money. But they do keep the beads in place, if you know what I mean. :p
