After recently winning a contest held by bchem I am compelled to pass the good vibes forward. Before I get to the contest details I must extol the virtues of bchem and Herfin Bigdog, these are two generous thoughtful brothers who simply blew me away with their thoughtfulness in putting together the winnings, thanks guys!

A few simple rules, I am the judge and jury and my say is final. You must be a member in good standing at least six months to participate and you must be willing to hold another contest and continue to pass the good karma forward. When holding the contest feel free to include any or all the sticks I send you as winnings, this contest will not include any smokes received from bchem and Herfin Bigdog. No edits and one post only.

Since I don't have enough time here on CP to make a cigar related contest this will be sports related. First one to get them all correct wins. I believe this will be difficult but to the victor goes the spoils.

1) Which manager has won the most A.L. pennants?
2) Who managed the most seasons in the majors without ever winning a pennant?
3) Name the only player to play in at least 150 games with over 500 at bats and have an average less than .200?
4) Who's HR ended the longest (in innings) 0-0 stalemate in ML history?
5) What is George Mogridge's claim to fame?
6) All the above answers have a common thread what is the common thread and how is the answer tied to that common thread.

You're Welcome Alan! It is very cool to that you are Passing It Forward already.

To Pass Forward the good will is as equally important as Passing Forward cigars or knowledge.

Excellent contest idea too. :D

Best of Luck to the participants. :)

Great contest!

1. Joe Torre
2. Jim Leyland
3. Roger Clemons
4. JD Drew
5. Statistics
6. New York Yankees

Good luck everyone!

1) Which manager has won the most A.L. pennants?
Casey Stengel - 10

2) Who managed the most seasons in the majors without ever winning a pennant?
Gene Mauch something like 25 seasons – He should have had one in 86

3) Name the only player to play in at least 150 games with over 500 at bats and have an average less than .200?
I probably should know this, however I am at a loss right now.
I'll guess Rob Deer, although I don't think he played that many games in a season.

4) Who's HR ended the longest (in innings) 0-0 stalemate in ML history?
Former Yankee farmhand JD Drew

5) What is George Mogridge's claim to fame?
Threw the Yankees first no hitter.
I think he and Rags are the only two Yankees to toss no hitters against the Sawks...

6) All the above answers have a common thread what is the common thread and how is the answer tied to that common thread.
I have to say the Yankees, although I'm questioning my guess of Mauch now...
Maybe he was drafted by the Yanks or was a coach or something ???

Thanks for the contest and Lets go Yankees

Disappinting that there is not much interest here!

I'll let this run through Friday, Apathy78 is close but leaves some room for improvement.

I have not been here long enough, I'm sorry I'm a newbie. I won't let it happen again.

Ooops...For number 4, I meant JT Snow vice JD Drew...I got my J's mixed up...

Wasy, I would have loved to take a run at your contest knowing what a generous BOTL you are. However, if find the subject matter in this thread to be heinous! :p Wow it's been a long time since those friggin' losers won the World Series.

6 years to the Yankees is like 86 years to any other team :sign: :sign:

Just another reason to hate the Yankees.

Go Mets!

Ok here are my "guesses"

1. Stengel
2. Mauch
3. Bill Bergen
4. J.T. Snow
5. 1st Yankee to throw a No No
6. All played for or managed New York teams ( I  NY)

Wasy - thanks for the costest.

1. Casey Stengel (10)
2. Gene Mauch
3. Lefty Gomez (368 games, 904 ABs, never went over .200 in a year)
4. JD Drew
5. 1st No No by a Yankee
6. All Yankee facts

Thanks for the contest Wasy!!

I'll throw this out there and allow second posts but still no edits.

Exclude pitchers from question 3, I'm talking a batter with over 150 games and over 500 ab's in a single year with under a .200 avg.

Tell me how Gene Mauch is linked to the Yankees?

I'll take a stab. Bored out of my mind.

1. Stengel
2. Mauch
3. Monte Cross
4. JD Drew
5. First NY no hitter
6. all related to NY teams.

(Mauch signed with the brooklyn dodgers) And I'm not sure how Monte Cross is related to NY but he did it in 1904 as well. Nice game. Thanks!

1. Casey Stengel (10)
2. Gene Mauch
3. Tom Tresh (1968): 152 gp, 507 ab, .195 avg
4. JD Drew
5. 1st No No by a Yankee
6. All Yankee facts

Well, I may not win, but I sure as hell do know a lot about the Yankees now, lol.

This baby is done and it looks like we have two winners, Brickhouse and KeyserSoze who came up with Monte Cross which is a correct answer but not the answer was looking for.

1. Stengel
2. Gene Mauch
3. Tom Tresh and now Monte Cross
4. Davey Johnson
5. 1st no hitter by a Yankee
6. All were players, managers or drafted by the Yankees

Congrats Brickhouse and KeyserSoze! pm me your addy's and I'll get those prizes out ASAP.
